Optometrist

Unicomer (Barbados) Limited is looking for a recently-qualified Optometrist ready to launch their career in a dynamic, patient-focused environment. This role goes beyond eye testing; it’s about educating patients, supporting overall eye health and contributing to a seamless customer experience.

 OVERALL PURPOSE

 MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Examine patients' eyes and prescribe corrective eyeglasses, contact lenses or other treatment options.
• Test for signs of injury, disease, abnormality or vision defects; including signs and symptoms of general health conditions (e.g. diabetes) and refer patients to an Ophthalmologist if necessary.
• Manage and prescribe medicines for people with eye conditions.
• Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements, safety factors, correct reading habits and good nutrition and hygiene.
• Recommend servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating or fine-tuning of devices and equipment to ensure that results are accurate.
• Manage and train staff, including dispensing opticians and clerical staff.
• Liaise with sales representatives from vision care product suppliers.
• Ensure that customer receive service that exceeds their expectations to encourage repeat visits.
• Perform any other reasonable and related duties as delegated from time to time by management.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications & Experience

• BSc. in Optometry from a school accredited by the Barbados Accreditation Council
• At least three (3) years’ experience in Optometry
• Experience with contact lenses will be an asset
• Registered with Barbados Paramedical Council and in good standing
