SUMMARY:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides occupational therapy services to clients
Responsible for establishing, monitoring and delivering occupational therapy to clients
a. Assesses client’s physical and functional status in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure,
and the performance of components.
b. Completes report of assessment findings within 2 weeks of completing assessment.
c. In collaboration with the client and family/caregivers, using a client-centered approach,
identifies and prioritizes existing and potential problems.
d. Establishes, implements, evaluates and adjusts treatment goals and service plans in
collaboration with the client and/or family, caregivers, school personnel and clinical staff.
e. Prescribes equipment and supplies necessary to increase the client’s safety and functional ability within the home or school environment.
f. Provides suggested designs or design advice, or authorizes plans for appropriate renovations to home and school in order to facilitate the client’s function and accessibility.
g. Provides information and instruction to clients/caregivers/school staff concerning status, treatment and management of the client’s problems/concerns, care and needs, based on established goals and service plan.
h. Advocates, when necessary, on behalf of the client for benefits, privileges, special needs and considerations.
i. Monitors progress towards goals and adjusts them as required.
j. Assists client/family/caregivers in planning for their discharge.
2. Provides Occupational Therapy in Community Settings:
a. Community settings include private residences, schools, designated camp areas outside of clinic environment.
b. Accessing community worksites requires travel between clinic and clients or designated site, usually by motor vehicle in varied weather conditions.
c. The OT may work on their own in this instance or with a clinical team
d. The OT identifies potential risk situation and responds appropriately so as to minimize risk to self, client and others.
3. Promotes client safety
a. Follows the Client Safety Standard
b. Assesses for safety and risk of harm to the client.
c. Acts as a resource for family and care providers/caregivers re: client safety. Recommends referral to other disciplines or community resources as indicated.
d. Promotes an environment that provides reduced risk of harm or unsafe conditions for the client.
4. Liaises with Clinical Staff regarding client care:
a. As necessary, at team meetings, informs clinical staff of client goals.
b. Advises frequency and duration of occupational therapy intervention required.
c. Makes recommendations regarding needs for services of other healthcare professionals when necessary.
5. Confers with other professionals, service providers and family members/caregivers:
a. With family members and other supports/caregivers as authorized by client/family depending on age.
b. With health care professionals concurrently involved with client with client/family authorization
c. With clinical team members, with authorization from client/family for interdisciplinary approach.
d. With school personnel, with authorization, regarding support for, integration into and adaptation of school’s program.
e. With vendors regarding equipment.
f. With funding agencies as required, generic information unless authorization received from client/family member.
g. With others as required, always with authorization
6. Maintains records and statistics to a standard appropriate for medico-legal purposes, to professional standards, and as directed:
a. Generates and maintains individual client charts according to established standards.
b. Prepares reports according to established standards.
c. Completes and submits records of services provided.
d. Completes other records and statistics and required.
7. Responsible for program planning.
a. Oversees in program planning by providing information regarding requirements for occupational therapy service delivery.
b. Works with all Occupational therapist ensuring program plans are completed on template and submitted to PCAC for approval within specified time.
8. Develop, promote ad coordinate School Programs
a. Establish working relationship with Administration/Principal of respective schools
b. Ensure services are provided to at least 2 schools per semester.
c. Organize scheduling for school programs and appropriate therapist
d. Ensure proper documentation and filing according to the CKFTO school procedures
e. Monitoring and ensuring all screening, assessment, and end of term reports are completed in a timely manner
f. Liaise with Administrator to ensure invoices are created and delivered to schools
9. Ensures Yearly Performance Appraisals completed on Occupational Therapists and Self
a) Qualifications of all Therapists checked yearly
b) All Therapists to maintain License in Country of Origin
c) Updated CV on all Therapists yearly
d) Ensures all Therapists complete College’s Standards for Quality Assurance: On File for each Therapist:
• Current yearly CPR with Standard First Aid
• Updating Education as Required by College of Origin
• Self-Evaluation
• Yearly Performance Appraisal by General Manager
10. Supervision of Occupational Therapists within individual clinic
a) Ensures regular Therapist/Staff meetings to discuss clinic needs
b) Ensures regular Therapist meetings to discuss client needs
c) Ensures Quality Assurance with respect to record keeping

f) Liaise with as necessary:

• Businesses
• Hospitals
• Schools
• Associations/Societies/Networks etc. associated with Disabilities
• Ministries
• Academic Administration (Universities) and Faculty
g) Assists CKFTO PCAC and HR Committees
• Recruiting Therapy Providers
• In Evaluating and Promoting Growth and Development of Clinical Therapists/Staff
h) Supervise Orientation and Training of Occupational therapist personnel and students
11. Management of the filing systems, clinic area, and equipment
a) Ensure filing systems are maintained and up to date
• Ensure protection and security of files and records
• Ensure effective transfer of files and records
• Ensure procedures for record retention are followed
12. Other Responsibilities:
a. Attends and participates in staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
b. Efficiently maintains and manages assigned caseload.
c. Keeps up to date about and abides by all company standards, policies and procedures.
d. Participates in professional and/or related community activities with prior approval from supervisor.
e. Supervises clients
f. Maintains professional skills and knowledge.
g. Attends at least three educational events each year (includes CPR/First Aid)
h. Prepares and presents workshops/in-services/programs/projects as required/requested.
i. Operates all office/therapy equipment.
j. Operates a motor vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current active registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of OT where originally licensed.
• Current active registration with T&T OT/PT licensing
• Valid Driver’s License and the use of a reliable vehicle may be viewed by Director.
• Acceptable Criminal Record check with annual offense declaration.
• Disclosure of Accommodation needs.
RECOMMENDED COMPETENCIES:
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (Basic Rescuer Level) and basic First Aid.
• Non-violent crisis intervention training is considered an asset.
