We are seeking a proactive, hands-on Occupational Health & Safety Officer to lead and strengthen safety practices across our restaurants, factory and fulfilment centre, and support centre. About the Role:

The Occupational Health and Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment across all Island Grill locations and support operations. The role leads the implementation of workplace safety practices, ensures compliance with occupational health and food safety regulations, and strengthens emergency preparedness. Working closely with operational leaders and team members, the Officer identifies and mitigates risks, delivers effective safety training, and embeds a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement into everyday operations.

Key Functions

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all occupational health and safety matters across Island Grill.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by engaging teams on-site and reinforcing safe work practices.
  • Conduct regular inspections, audits, and assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with local and national OSH regulations, food safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Support Learning & Development with the design and delivery of impactful safety training and onboarding.
  • Develop, implement, and test emergency response plans (e.g. fire, hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding).
  • Maintain accurate safety records, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with Operations, HR, Facilities, and external stakeholders to continuously improve safety performance.

We are looking for someone who exemplifies:

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, multi-site operational environments
  • Confident engaging and influencing team members at all levels, from frontline staff to senior leaders
  • Strong working knowledge of occupational health & safety legislation, food safety standards, and emergency response protocols
  • Highly observant with strong hazard identification and assessment skills
  • Solutions-oriented, with the ability to recommend and implement practical, sustainable safety controls
  • Organized and detail-driven in maintaining records, reports, and compliance documentation
  • Calm, decisive, and reliable during incidents or emergency situations
  • Willing and able to travel frequently between locations

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in a safety role, preferably within QSR, hospitality, manufacturing, or food production.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety legislation, food safety requirements, and emergency response protocols.
  • Certifications in Occupational Safety, Food Safety, First Aid, and Fire Safety (HACCP is an asset).
