VACANCY: OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Health Nurse has sole responsibility to ensure the proper managing of the Waterfront Clinic - Port of Spain and of the day to day management and administration of it, with telephone support to personnel on the Port of Scarborough - Tobago, as required. The Occupational Health Nurse administers prompt and efficient medical attention to all employees referred to the Clinic and schedules appointments with the Clinic doctor as deemed necessary.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sole responsibility for day to day management and administration of the Waterfront Clinic, Port of Spain with telephone support to personnel on the Port of Scarborough, Tobago, as required.
  • Refer occupational injuries to the Medical Physician for management on a weekly basis; ensuring that appointments for the weekly medical clinic are made and kept and relevant reports and test results are available.
  • Conduct workplace visits following reports of occupational ill-health; general a report to the Medical Physician , as required.
  • Facilitate emergency nursing care, if required. Hospital and Home Visits at Human Resource Department's request when necessary in both Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Assist the Medical Physician in conducting annual medical examination of employees.
  • Conducts on-site random and periodic screening for illicit drugs at the Waterfront Clinic, Port of Spain and Port of Scarborough, Tobago.
  • Compile, Secure, Retrieve and Archive confidential individual medical records, which comply with legal requirements and Company Policies.
  • Delivers a range of services including: statutory medical assessments, workplace assessments, on-site vision screening and health education.
  • Conducts paper screening for interns/ short term employees.
  • Advise managers/supervisors on occupational health issues.
  • Prepare a Monthly Clinic Usage Report, inclusive of reported accidents and substance abuse screening and any other report as may be needed by Human Resources and/or the Safety Department.
  • Be responsible for the security of the Clinic.
  • Manage the petty cash issued to the Clinic by the Finance Department.
  • Prepare Direct Purchase Orders (DPRs), stores and stationery requests as needed.
  • Liaise with the Health & Safety Department (HSE), Labour Office and the Risk Management Department of the Port.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation to assist in the education of the workforce on occupational health and safety matters.
  • Knowledge of Trinidad and Tobago Health Regulations, including Occupational Health Safety (OSHA) legislation as it applies to occupational health practice in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Be able to work well as a contributing member of a high performance team.
  • Have a strong sense of self-confidence.
  • Be able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Must have sound judgment and influencing skills.
  • Ability to function with minimum supervision.

MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND WORKING EXPERIENCE

  • Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar workplace setting.
  • Occupational Health postgraduate qualification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
