1. Job SUMMARY: | |||||

3. RESPONSIBILITIES: | |||||
The post holder will do or cause to be done the activities below. These activities are not exhaustive and other duties which are within the realms of his/ her qualifications, experience and ability may be required.
1.1. Provide evidenced based care to Nephrology and Internal Medicine in-patients and those patients referred to Internal Medicine for consultation as part of multidisciplinary care. 1.2. Provide evidenced based care to Nephrology and Internal Medicine out-patients via the Out Patient clinic. 1.3. Provide evidenced based care to High Dependancy Unit patients. 1.4. Provide Internal Medicine emergency coverage on an on-call basis and in accordance with the roster 1.5. Provide ethical, competent, empathetic and evidence based patient care within acceptable regional and evidenced based standards 1.6. Facilitate, where neccessary, visiting consultants 1.7. Assist colleagues in a collegiate and respectful manner where neccessary 1.8. Advise and supervise the delivery of nursing and junior level staff to the Intenral Medicine patients. 1.9. Attend daily ward rounds on patients admitted to Internal Medicine
2.1. Creation,Review & Maintenance of Policy & Procedures Partake with colleagues in the creation, review and maintenance of policies and procedures for the Internal Medicine department. At the direction of the Chief of Medical Services (CMS) and Head of Internal Meidicine (HOD) you shall assist the department to ensure all existing policy/procedures are reviewed at periods set at the time of writing and, where changes in practices/systems occur which affect the currency of the policies/ procedures, at the time of such change. Any changes will also be after due consultation with other stakeholders adn in accordance with the policies and prodecures of the hospital.
2.2. Adherence to Policy & Procedures
Adhere to policies and proceedures and adivse CMS and HOD of variance and reason for variance if it is felt that a variance is neccessary for the best interests of patient/hospital. Any variances must be supported by evidenced based practices.
2.3 Assist with the selection of equipment and consumables where appropriate. 2.4 Participates in departmental projects including but not limited to collaboration interms of development, implementation and monitoring. 2.5 Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, protocol and clinical guidelines.
3.1. Membership of Committees
The post holder may be required to sit on committees either as a routine or as ad hoc requirements for investigative or other purposes
3.2 Case presentation to morbidity and mortality committee when indicated.
The post holder will conform to any and all quality initiatives which may be present within the hospital and ensure quality and best practice within their work at all times.
Particpate in accreditation activities, clinical audits and other continous quality improvement iniatives.
Participation in peer review.
Participation in case review.
Participation in performance appraisal and development activities.
5.1. The Program The postholder will attend CME sessions as required for maintenance of Medical license and assurance of clinical competency and skills. 5.2. Presentations The post holder will take part in the program by presenting a topic at least on an annual basis
The post holder will provide Internal Medicine advise and guidance to colleagues as requested. The post holder may also at times be required to provide Internal Medicine advise and guidance to CMS/CEO/HOD.
