Position Summary: The Mixologist is responsible for crafting exceptional alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, providing outstanding customer service, and ensuring the efficient and clean operation of the bar. This role requires creativity, in-depth knowledge of mixology, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while adhering to all relevant health, safety, and liquor laws in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Key Responsibilities:

I. Beverage Preparation & Mixology:

  • Crafting Cocktails: Prepare and serve a wide range of classic and contemporary cocktails, mocktails, spirits, wines, and beers with precision, consistency, and artistic flair.
  • Recipe Development: Develop and introduce innovative new drink recipes, staying updated on current trends and seasonal ingredients, and contributing to the restaurant's unique beverage program.
  • Garnish Preparation: Prepare and organize all necessary garnishes, syrups, purees, and other cocktail components.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all beverages are prepared and served to the highest quality standards, maintaining proper taste, temperature, and presentation.
  • Product Knowledge: Possess extensive knowledge of all bar offerings, including spirits, wines (varietals, regions), beers, and non-alcoholic options, and be able to confidently describe them to guests and make recommendations.

II. Bar Operations & Inventory:

  • Setup & Breakdown: Set up and break down the bar area before, during, and after shifts, ensuring all equipment is in working order and the bar is fully stocked.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and manage bar inventory, including liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, and supplies. Conduct regular stock counts and communicate replenishment needs to management.
  • Ordering & Receiving: Assist with placing orders for bar supplies and receiving deliveries, verifying quantities and quality.
  • Glassware & Supplies: Ensure an adequate supply of clean glassware, ice, and other bar essentials is always available.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain all bar equipment (e.g., blenders, shakers, coffee machines, ice makers) in a clean and safe manner, reporting any malfunctions promptly.

III. Guest Service & Interaction:

  • Warm Welcome: Greet guests warmly and professionally, creating a welcoming and engaging atmosphere at the bar.
  • Order Taking: Accurately take drink orders from guests and servers, utilizing the POS system efficiently.
  • Recommendations & Upselling: Assess guest preferences, offer informed recommendations, and skillfully upsell premium beverages or promotions.
  • Engaging Conversation: Engage in polite and attentive conversation with guests, enhancing their overall experience.
  • Issue Resolution: Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and feedback promptly and courteously, escalating to management when necessary.
  • Responsible Service: Adhere strictly to all local liquor laws regarding responsible alcohol service (e.g., checking IDs, refusing service to intoxicated individuals).

IV. Cleanliness & Compliance:

  • Bar Cleanliness: Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization in all bar areas, including countertops, sinks, floors, and storage areas, following a "clean as you go" policy.
  • Hygiene & Sanitation: Adhere to all food and beverage safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
  • Waste Management: Manage waste and recycling according to established procedures.
  • Legal Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all relevant health codes, safety regulations, and the liquor licensing laws of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

V. Financial & Administrative:

  • Cash Handling: Accurately process payments, manage cash drawer, and reconcile transactions at the end of each shift.
  • POS System: Proficiently operate the Point of Sale (POS) system for order entry, billing, and reporting.
  • Reporting: Complete end-of-shift reports accurately, including sales, inventory, and cash reconciliation.

VI. Teamwork & Professionalism:

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth service flow and guest satisfaction.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Professional Conduct: Exhibit a positive attitude, maintain a professional appearance, and demonstrate punctuality and reliability.
  • Adaptability: Be flexible and willing to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by business needs.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proven experience (typically 2+ years) as a Bartender or Mixologist in a high-volume restaurant, bar, or hospitality setting.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktail recipes, spirits, wine, and beer.
  • Strong understanding of bar equipment and operational procedures.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Basic math skills and experience with cash handling and POS systems.
  • Must be of legal drinking age in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
  • Knowledge of local health and safety regulations, and responsible alcohol service practices in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
  • Relevant bartending or mixology certification is a strong asset.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying of items up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ramps.
  • Manual dexterity to mix drinks and handle glassware.
