Designation:              MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST

 

Responsible to:         Senior Scientist / Laboratory Manager / Medical Director

 

Nature of Job:

 

  • Perform routine and special testing of pathology specimens.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Performs duties as assigned or requested by the Laboratory Manager or designate
  • Undertakes specific analytical tasks as specified in the laboratory methods manual.
  • Writes policies, processes and procedures as requested by the Laboratory Manager or designate and as

 per the guidelines of the company.

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs,

accreditation requirements, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  • Interprets data and prepare reports on work performed.
  • Ensures analytical tasks performed meet quality control guidelines as specified in the laboratory

methods manual.

  • Provides technical supervision of less senior and less qualified staff.
  • Participates in training of staff.
  • Participates in continuing education and training.
  • Be aware of and observe health and safety regulations as they apply to the Laboratory.
  • Answers result enquiries and discuss test results with referring practitioners as required.
  • Refers all clinical interpretations to Medical Laboratory Director.
  • Ensures that all equipment used by the Scientist is maintained in good operating condition and that all

equipment logs are accurate and up to date.

  • Reports any equipment or reagent problems to the Senior Scientist immediately.
  • Ensures that the work area is maintained in a clean and tidy state.
  • Ensures all work benches are cleaned with prescribed antibacterial solution at the start and finish of

every shift.

  • Responsible for providing high quality service ensuring the satisfaction of all clients is maintained.
  • Ensures that adequate stocks of consumables are available to carry out analytical tasks at all times.
  • Must ensure that they delegate their tasks to other Scientists, in their absence.
  • Ensures the maintenance of all quality control and quality assurance programmes.
  • Prepares and maintains required records, monthly reports and statistics as directed.
  • Undertakes small projects as required by the Laboratory Manager or designate.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Ensures correct disposal and overall management of the Medical Waste as per the SOP.
  • Responsible for management and preparation of internal products as per the requirements of process and as

 per SOP.

  • Responsible for documentation and labelling for all the products prepared and stored in the laboratory.

Qualifications-

 

  • Bachelors or Masters in Life Sciences, Microbiology, Immunology, Bio-chemistry, Haematology.
  • Bachelors or Masters in Medical Laboratory Technology.

 

Work experience-

 

  • 5 years or more work experience in related field.
  • At least 3 years in multi-speciality secondary to tertiary care hospital setting

 

Relevant experience-

 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in handling automated laboratory analyzers.
  • Knowledge and experience of quality control methods
  • Previous experience in overseas placements within the Healthcare area as well as regional knowledge

of healthcare.

 

Relevant skills-

 

  • Statistical analysis preferable

 

Any other skills-

 

  • Computer literate

 

Organizational pre-requisite as per policy-

 

  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Ability to travel
