The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing mechanical engineering guidance and delivery of projects that support asset operations and maintenance, integrity improvement, facilities upgrades, and construction oversight.

About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing mechanical engineering guidance and delivery of projects that support asset operations and maintenance, integrity improvement, facilities upgrades, and construction oversight for the Client's Offshore and Onshore facilities. The position is responsible for delivery of engineering projects from design to handover including project control, monitoring and innovation. This role will report to the Trinidad and Tobago Surface Engineering manager and is based in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and Tobago. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure discipline related engineering, maintenance, and project work is carried out in accordance with the required technical standards, processes, and procedures while operating in compliance with local regulations and corporate standards.
  • Provide technical design and leadership for mechanical engineering and maintenance activities related to surface piping systems and production equipment, facility structure, passive fire systems, escape evacuation and rescue systems, rotating equipment, valves, and piping systems.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of relevant projects, including management of contractors, to deliver projects in accordance with the agreed budget, schedule, quality, technical and HSSE standards.
  • Provide review and endorsement for mechanical discipline components of management of change projects led by others for the facility.
  • Work planning and execution including development of work-packs, work instructions, materials selection & tracking, and coordination of resources.
  • Interface with the operations and maintenance organisations to provide best fit solutions and early construction input to design process and Construction Work pack development.
  • Serve as “System Custodian” for Safety Critical Systems including passive fire systems, escape evacuation and rescue systems, rotating equipment, valves, and piping systems.
  • Ability to design, develop and interpret specifications and technical documentation including mechanical & fabrication drawings, piping system drawings etc.
  • Responsible for capturing and sharing lessons learnt during the execution of projects.
  • Participate as a member of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) teams as required.
  • Participate in HAZID/HAZOP/Design Reviews and support discipline action closeout.
  • Ensure technical risks are identified and assessments conducted in accordance with the Process Safety management procedure requirements. 
  • Must be able to travel to offshore facility to complete scopes as needed.
  • Foster effective relationships with both office and field-based teams.
  • Coach others to upskill their knowledge in mechanical engineering.
  • Monitor activities and developments in Mechanical Engineering area in industry groups, regulators, and contractors to identify and support implementation of best practices across International Operations.

 

About You

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Certification in project management will be considered an asset.
  • Combination of Mechanical Engineering and Project Management experience is preferred.
  • 10+ years’ industry related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver engineering projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the inspection and maintenance requirements of surface production equipment, piping, valves, and topsides structures.
  • Working with peers within the Trinidad and Tobago Production Unit to achieve a multi-disciplined approach to problem solving and to achieve or better the Project objectives.
  • Demonstrates strong teamwork and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrates HSEC leadership in a producing asset environment.
  • Demonstrates high levels of autonomy and business acumen.
  • Knowledge in system integration – ability to solve complex problems, understanding the interactions between the interfaces. 
  • Experience with / knowledge of the discipline specific local and industry standards
