The Manager, Recoveries drives and manages the Bank’s recovery strategies across all mortgage portfolios with a focus on non-performing project financing facilities, including large-scale residential and commercial developments.

Position Purpose 

The Manager, Recoveries drives and manages the Bank’s recovery strategies across all mortgage portfolios with a focus on non-performing project financing facilities, including large-scale residential and commercial developments. This role involves complex debt restructuring, recovery through enforcement of step-in rights and legal or negotiated exit strategies. The incumbent ensures that recovery actions align with the Bank’s mortgage framework and credit risk appetite, and regulatory compliance requirements in direct support to the Senior Manager I, Operations and Servicing.

Responsibilities

  • Operational:Drives and Manages the Bank’s recoveries, collections and delinquency management strategies; Manages the Recovery process for non-performing portfolios; Conducts operational reviews and analyses trends; Conducts project evaluation and recovery strategies
  • People: Drives a high-performance culture for the department; Communicates, collaborates and exchanges information with internal stakeholders; Manages Relationships with External Stakeholders
  • Strategic: Provides strategic advice to improve customer satisfaction, customer retention, and customer experience while mitigating the risk to the organisation of delinquent accounts.
  • Reporting: Prepares, reviews, and submits reports as required by the Company and Regulatory Agencies

 Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of mortgage portfolio underwriting practices and administration, recovery strategies and processes, regulations and best practices for the management of impaired assets.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal recovery frameworks including receivership, liquidation, and foreclosure of commercial developments.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, valuation methodologies, and project feasibility assessments.
  • Extensive understanding of credit risk principles and workout strategies for non-performing residential mortgages, project finance and commercial lending.
  • Extensive negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of financial products and collateral types including legal descriptions and document types.
  • Extensive knowledge of systems to be used in portfolio maintenance, delinquency control, and collections activities (e.g. Signature UI and VQue/Web Collect, MIRTs, Nautilus systems).
  • Extensive knowledge of Company’s business, products and the competitive framework of the industry.
  • Expert ability to critically review delinquent accounts.
  • Extensive ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve organisational goals.
  • Extensive ability to adjust positively to multiple demands, shifting priorities and rapid change.
  • Extensive planning and organisational skills.
  • Extensive interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders and have a collaboration approach to problem solving.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • Post graduate certification / certification in delinquency management, collections and recoveries credit analysis and credit structuring.
  • Certificate in Banking or Certificate for Financial Advisors will be an asset
  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ progressive experience in credit risk assessment and recovery strategy and restructuring for routine and high-risk complex credit facilities in a bank or financial institution inclusive of 5 years in project finance, real estate development lending, or restructuring of construction-related loans.
  • Proven track record managing recovery or restructuring of large-scale commercial pr residential development projects.
