The Manager – Projects, leads and directs the execution of Company on-shore and as required, off-shore mechanical maintenance, fabrication, and construction projects as well as all maintenance and small Brownfield Projects.

Job Summary:

The Manager – Projects, leads and directs the execution of Company  on-shore and as required, off-shore mechanical maintenance, fabrication, and construction projects as well as all maintenance and small Brownfield Projects.  The incumbent is ultimately accountable for the successful delivery of projects and must effectively manage all the interrelated functions within operations and any third-party contractors.  The Manager – Projects also acts as Project Sponsor to our Customers and must ensure that safety, value-add and service excellence is delivered at all times. 

The Manager – Projects, working with other members of the Management, may also be required to  actively develop and grow the Company’s portfolio of clients and projects in specific markets as directed by the CEO.

As the functional leader, the incumbent will work collaboratively with other Managers to ensure the effective delivery of the end to end process which include identification of potential projects, development of proposals, project execution, and client management.  He/she is responsible for the development of requisite policies, plans and systems to facilitate operations, and will be accountable for the Company’s strategic, financial and operational targets.

As a Manager within the Company, the role is expected to directly contribute to the identification of opportunities, management of risk and the strategic management in delivering corporate Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. In collaboration with the Estimating Department to prepare bid documents, technical queries and submittals related to projects which seek to expand the Company’s core business and within the upstream market.
  2. Provide overall leadership to ensure the successful implementation of the Strategic and Operational plans for the Department/Area.
  3. Create, review and/or edit Statements of Work or proposals generated by Damus’ Estimating or Business Development departments and support technical teams, focusing on process optimization.
  4. Lead the preparation and implementation of Project Execution Plans developing accurate Work Breakdown Structures inclusive of costing plans and/or change order plans, timelines, resource plans, equipment plans and manpower loading plans.
  5. Effectively manage assigned projects and project interfaces from conceptualization through to implementation stage (initiate, plan, schedule, execute, control, close), developing specific work instructions for each project; reviewing resource requirements; approving project close out documents, change orders and invoices for payment; and addressing/rectifying any issues arising during the process.
  6. Develop specific work instructions for projects in conjunction with relevant personnel and ensure performance reports are shared with wider teams.
  7. Review and approve weekly Value of Works Done (VOWDS) submitted by accounts team for all ongoing projects.
  8. Conduct project reviews recording and presenting Lessons Learned at close out project meetings, ensuring that such lessons are used to improve the bidding process and are implemented for future projects.
  9. Manage the financial aspects of the project against assigned budgets following award of Contracts for Services, working closely with the Accounts Department to ensure availability of financial resources to support maintenance, repairs and services while remaining mindful of adding value to the client’s capital assets and reducing their operating costs.
  10. Ensure appropriate and effective project close out upon completion of services in order to meet client expectations and financial obligations.

 Key Competencies/Required Knowledge:

  • Strong command of MS Projects and/ or Primavera software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and databases. 
  • Familiarity with the use and application of engineering codes such as ASME, API, ANSI.
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, construction codes and specifications with respect to structural steel, storage tanks and process piping.
  • Understanding of   the relevant ISO Quality Management System/Standards    to enable ability to provide appropriate leadership to ensuring the application and integration of the system/standards into the Company's Projects, project related activities and operating policies and procedures. 
  • Effective communication and presentation skills (oral and written); strong interpersonal/leadership skills.                             

 Qualifications, Certification and Experience:

  • BSc Engineering (Mechanical or Civil) from an accredited training institution/programme recognized by the Company. 
  • Professional Certification in Project Management.
  • Demonstrated competence and/or competencies normally acquired over a minimum of ten (10) years as a Business Unit Leader responsible for a span of control over 100+ employees in a highly technical environment. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years working with codes – API, ASME etc.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in Tank Building and Construction.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in Piping and Structural Erection and Maintenance.
  • Experience working in a heavily unionized environment.
