Job summary:

The Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient management and operations of the Credit Union, through the implementation of its strategic and operational objectives and goals. The Manager will be required to ensure the sustainability, operational efficiency and member-centric objectives of the Credit Union are met and maintained. The incumbent will therefore be required to drive performance geared towards the Credit Union achieving its financial, operational, regulatory, member and employee-related goals. The incumbent will be required to provide effective and efficient Strategic and Operational Governance, Leadership and Direction (GLD) in all areas of Management.

 

  1. A.     DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • To develop and promote business strategies that support/align with the strategic direction of the Credit Union
  • To develop and drive initiatives to ensure successful growth for the Credit Union and its shareholders
  • To build strong relationships with members and the community to increase membership and drive growth
  • To be responsible for managing member satisfaction and complaints
  • To review and recommend for approval by the Board of Directors, as required, an Organizational structure that supports the business needs of the Organization
  •  To develop/recommend/oversee yearly financial budgets for the Credit Union
  • To submit on a monthly basis, Financial Statements and Reports for review by the Executive Management and the Board at regular monthly meetings
  • To Recommend/Approve Loans and cheque payments in consultation with the Credit Committee based on established criteria and limits
  • To oversee the timely completion and presentation of Annual Financial Statements for approval by the board, for audit purposes and for inclusion in the Annual Report
  • To invest prudently the Society’s funds in collaboration with the BOD/Treasurer in the best interest of the membership
  • To ensure that all the Society’s assets are adequately insured and safe
  • To ensure efficient management and reduction of costs, increased revenues, and overall achievement of strategic objectives as set by the Board
  • To sit as a member of the Credit Union’s Finance Committee and other Committees as required
  • To establish a Regulatory framework to support Agricola’s operations, e.g. formulating policies and policy manuals, procedures, compliance standards, to be approved by the Board and reviewed as required
  • To ensure that all internal controls, operating policies and procedures are adhered to by all staff and ensuring the frequent updating of such where necessary
  • To make appropriate recommendations to the Board of Directors with respect to non-conformities so as to ensure corrective action is taken where necessary as it pertains to the facilities, human resources, policies, procedures and regulatory matters among others
  • To plan and co-ordinate Annual General Meetings and other events
  • To assist with Human Resource management, including recruitment, orientation, retention, training and development and continuing professional development of all staff
  • To recruit in conjunction with the Board/HR Committee and other relevant stakeholders, suitable senior officers to support the operations of the Credit Union
  • To ensure regular training and development of the Credit Union’s Human Resource to ensure optimal organizational performance and where required, regulatory compliance
  • To establish management measures to foster professional relationships, work culture and overall communication standards within the Credit Union
  • To ensure timely communication of key information to the stakeholders of relevant service areas to ensure the Credit Union remains relevant and responsive to member needs and regulatory changes
  • To liaise with Trade Unions with respect to Industrial Relations matters, as well as, attend Court on such matters as necessary
  • To liaise with the statutory and non-statutory committees to ensure compliance with Agricola’s Bye-Laws and the Co-operative Societies Act
  • To network and build strategic alliances with corporate entities so as to create mutual benefits
  • To assist in the design and implementation of marketing and advertising strategies geared towards promoting/ branding/ increasing the visibility of the Credit Union
  • To ensure the assessment and implementation of proper Fraud Mitigation measures and promote a risk friendly environment supported by adequate risk-based measures/operations
  • To ensure that all the Society’s assets are adequately insured and safe
  • To ensure the development and maintenance of a proper ICT framework with processes to enhance and support the effective operation of the Credit Union
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date financial systems, cybersecurity protocols, digital banking tools, and disaster recovery plans
  • Promote digital transformation initiatives to enhance member access and member experience generally, through online and all other applicable platforms
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve operational efficiency and member services
  • Oversee the Information Technology infrastructure and systems of the Credit Union to ensure secure and efficient operations
  • Ensure compliance with data security standards, in keeping with regulatory and industry requirements and practices
  • To undertake the overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Head Office and Sub-Branches
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required for the effective and efficient management of the Credit Union in accordance with industry standards and the best interests of the Employer.

B.  MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & TRAINING REQUIRED

  • A First Degree in Business Management, Accounts, Finance or any closely related discipline
  • An MBA/EMBA in Finance, Business Management or similarly related field will be an asset
  • A minimum of seven (7) years post qualification experience in a Credit Union or Financial Institution, of which at least five (5) years should be in a management position
  • Any combination of qualifications and experience
  • Experience in budgetary and financial management
  • Has background in planning, marketing, business and organizational development
  • Experience with strategic planning and project management will be considered an asset
  • Experience in managing a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills with the ability to operate and communicate effortlessly with all levels of Staff, Committees and Board
  • Possesses key leadership and organizational management skills
  • Excellent decision-making and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrates key understanding of functioning in a performance driven environment
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and to fulfill critical tasks efficiently and effectively and within stipulated deadlines
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Expertise with Microsoft Suite, particularly with Excel, Word & Outlook.

  • ·         Safe, clean and comfortable environment – provided with all necessary physical and technical facilities/equipment to carry out his/her duties in an efficient and effective manner in accordance with OSHA standards as far as is reasonably practical.
