The Management Trainee – Estimating supports the estimating, costing, and profitability functions within the manufacturing business.

OBJECTIVE & ROLE SUMMARY

The Management Trainee – Estimating supports the estimating, costing, and profitability functions within the manufacturing business. This role is designed to develop foundational knowledge in engineering-based estimation, cost analysis, and operational processes within the label industry.

The trainee will work closely with the Business Analyst Lead and cross-functional teams to build capability in pricing, project costing, tooling coordination, and business analysis, contributing to accurate decision-making and operational efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Estimating & Costing Support

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates for new and existing jobs
  • Support data collection for accurate pricing, including materials, labour, and machine costs
  • Track estimated vs. actual costs and highlight variances
  • Support quotation and tender preparation processes

Operational & Engineering Exposure

  • Learn and support production processes (flexographic and digital printing)
  • Assist in gathering technical specifications required for estimating
  • Collaborate with production and planning teams to understand workflows and constraints

Tooling & Systems

  • Support tracking and coordination of tooling requirements
  • Assist with maintaining data integrity in systems (e.g., Radius/ERP)
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for estimating systems and processes

Profitability & Analysis

  • Assist in basic profitability analysis and reporting
  • Support identification of cost-saving opportunities
  • Contribute to SLA tracking and reporting where required

Compliance & Collaboration

  • Support documentation required for material certification and compliance
  • Work collaboratively with departments to ensure accurate information flow
  • Participate in audits or process reviews as required

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or final year) in:
    • Industrial Engineering
    • or related field

Preferred:

  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing or costing principles
  • Exposure to data analysis or project work

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Strong Microsoft Excel / data handling skills
  • Basic understanding of costing and pricing concepts
  • Familiarity with ERP or production systems (advantage)
  • Analytical and numerical aptitude

EXPERIENCE

  • 0–2 years in manufacturing, operations, or analytical roles
  • Internship or academic project work in related fields is an asset
