JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE PLANNER
Work Location: Old Harbour
The Maintenance Planner plays a critical role in driving maintenance planning and execution strategies that support asset reliability, operational readiness, and cost-effective plant performance. This position is responsible for developing and overseeing comprehensive maintenance plans and schedules for online work, forced outages, planned outages, and capital or maintenance projects, while ensuring effective coordination of labor, materials, tools, equipment, and contractor services. The role provides planning leadership for maintenance activities, supports project scope development and budget preparation, and partners closely with maintenance and operations teams to optimize work execution, minimize downtime, and reduce operational risk.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to the following activities:
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of the plant’s maintenance planning and scheduling strategy.
- Serve as a key partner to Maintenance and Operations leadership in optimizing asset reliability, outage execution, and maintenance efficiency.
- Provide analytical insights and recommendations to support maintenance budget development, lifecycle planning, and long-term asset management decisions.
- Drive backlog optimization and work prioritization based on risk, criticality, operational impact, and resource availability.
- Champion best practices in preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Monitor maintenance performance metrics and identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate major outages and high-risk maintenance activities, ensuring alignment across operations, contractors, vendors, and support functions.
- Support root cause analysis efforts and translate findings into sustainable maintenance planning improvements.
- Act as a subject matter resource for CMMS utilization, data integrity, maintenance workflow effectiveness, and planning standards.
- Contribute to contractor scope development, bid review support, and service planning for specialized maintenance activities.
- Influence inventory and spare parts strategy by identifying critical parts requirements and supporting reliability-centered stocking decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Project Management certification.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in a similar role within a process plant or equivalent environment.
- Certified training in Project Management.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Strong planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in outage planning, shutdown coordination, or major maintenance execution.
- Experience using CMMS/EAM systems to analyze trends and improve maintenance effectiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret maintenance KPIs and use data to drive decisions.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, contractors, and external vendors.
- Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance principles and maintenance best practices.
