Job Summary

Under minimum supervision lead all maintenance activities across the plant, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, reliability, and performance of critical production assets including extruders, conversion machines and manufacturing equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a team of maintenance technicians across all shifts.
  • Develop maintenance schedules and assign daily tasks, ensuring PM completion.
  • Provide coaching, technical support, and skill development to technicians.
  • Coordinate with production, quality, and engineering teams to prioritize repairs and projects.
  • Manage overtime, contractor services and training schedules.
  • Oversee maintenance of:

-                           Servo-driven and PLC-controlled conversion, extrusion, and machines

-                           Auxiliary equipment: chillers, air compressors, recycling systems, gearboxes, heaters

-                           Facility systems: compressed air, power distribution, lighting, safety systems

  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for chronic or complex equipment issues.
  • Ensure machine programs, parameters, and drive configurations are properly backed up and documented schedule and conduct staff meetings.
  • Develop and continuously improve PM plans using equipment manuals and data.
  • Implement predictive tools (vibration, thermal imaging, etc.) where applicable.
  • Monitor equipment performance trends to anticipate failures and optimize uptime.
  • Oversee spare parts inventory, reorder points, and usage tracking.
  • Manage maintenance operating budgets, cost-saving initiatives, and CapEx planning for upgrades.
  • Ensure proper documentation of work orders, failures, and spares use.
  • Enforce all plant safety procedures and LOTO compliance.
  • Ensure all equipment modifications meet electrical and mechanical safety codes.
  • Conduct periodic audits on safety and preventive maintenance completion.
  • Lead installation, commissioning, and upgrades of new equipment (extruders, servo systems, etc.)
  • Liaise with OEMs for specialized repairs, upgrades, or training.
  • Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and initiatives.

Job Requirements

  1. Degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.
  2. 5+ years managerial experience in industrial maintenance.
  3. Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, extrusion, and plastic processing systems.
  4. Proficient in PLCs, servo systems, drives, CMMS, and maintenance tools (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.)
  5. Must have a solid background in electrical and mechanical systems.
  6. Strong focus on safety, reliability, and compliance.
  7. Excellent project management, planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  8. Ability to work weekends/public holidays

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Principles and practices of maintenance management
  • Leadership / Managerial practices.
  • Managing and training employees, to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments
  • Supplies, equipment and/or services ordering and inventory control
  • Installing, repairing and replacing plant equipment/machinery
  • Inspecting, cleaning and adjusting plant equipment to conform to job specifications
  • Theory behind basic instrumentation, control equipment and mechanical codes
  • Performance specifications, tolerances and maintenance requirements of plant equipment
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics
  • Designing and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance programmes.
  • Using hand and power tools applicable to trade
  • Working as part of an integral team considering your colleagues at all times.
  • Gathering data, compiling information and preparing reports.
  • Understanding of extrusion, pneumatic and electronic controls.
  • Preparing routine administrative work.
  • Developing and maintaining files and records
