The Maintenance Coordinator coordinates and documents the maintenance of all production machinery, including, but not limited to, refrigeration systems, boiler operations, plumbing, and electrical and mechanical machinery

 SALARY RANGE:  $3,501,526.00  -  $4,709,163.00 PER ANNUM

Summary:   

Under the direction of the Safety and Maintenance Officer, the Maintenance Coordinator coordinates and documents the maintenance of all production machinery, including, but not limited to, refrigeration systems, boiler operations, plumbing, and electrical and mechanical machinery.  The Maintenance Coordinator is also responsible for collecting equipment data and assisting the Safety and Maintenance Officer in developing, implementing, and monitoring maintenance and safety programs for all equipment utilized in the production process. The Maintenance Coordinator also enforce regulations governing employee safety and occupational health protection.

Key Responsibility Areas:

 

Management/Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of the department operational, workplans and budget
  • Coordinates the utilization of technicians between shifts and acts as the central point of contact for mechanical/electrical repair issues
  • Ensures that maintenance activities are consistently and concisely documented.
  • Maintains accurate records and routinely report the results of workplace accident and injury trend analyses
  • Coordinates the new employee orientation and safety training programs.

 

Technical /Professional Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and analyzes technician feedback to optimize effective and efficient maintenance procedures, planning and scheduling.
  • Recommends specialized training or seminars to enhance the overall ability of the department to perform in a sound technical and professional manner.
  • Initiates and distributes maintenance status reports to assist in the prioritization of resources and personnel.
  • Assists the Safety and Maintenance Officer with ensuring that all equipment is sound, mechanically operational, electrically efficient, and safe by planning and scheduling daily and weekly preventative maintenance activities.
  • Supervises the technicians in the performance of routine maintenance on equipment and systems and makes work assignments based upon evaluation of job requirements and individual expertise.
  • Assures completion of assigned maintenance and repair tasks by monitoring work progress performed by the technicians, inspecting work performance and providing corrections of any deficiencies as necessary, redirecting work efforts to meet critical and/or necessary work requirements, and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
  • Assists with the development of a competent and efficient technical team by training apprentices (as necessary) in the proper use of equipment, hand and power tools and in safety and occupational health.
  • Assists with developing preventative maintenance tasks for the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration control systems.
  • Assists with documenting the cost of maintenance repairs and services by keeping records of time and materials to be charged to each job and providing periodic status reports to the Safety and Maintenance Officer.
  • Ensures that preventative maintenance personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform necessary maintenance by monitoring the use of supplies and materials, estimating future material usage, requisitioning those supplies and equipment, distributing supplies/materials and equipment as required, and advising the Safety and Maintenance Officer regarding potential shortages, recommended replacement items, or related equipment needs.
  • Assists the Safety and Maintenance Officer with ensuring that contract maintenance services meet specified results thus minimizing future operational problems by observing (spot checking) the work performed and advising the Safety and Maintenance Officer when contracted services fail to meet specifications.
  • Reduces the likelihood of a significant disruption of mechanical services to the production process and assures around-the-clock responsiveness to mechanical failures or emergency situations.
  • Assists in reviewing the company’s safety policy and safety rules and update as necessary.
  • Recommends actions to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents and illnesses.
  • Assist the Company in complying with government standards concerning safety and health.
  • Assist Managers / supervisors with accident investigations, including hazard identification and corrective actions.
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions and practices and determine remedies.
  • Make recommendations to management on matters pertaining to safety.
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of job hazard analyses

Human Resource Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of direct reports, prepares performance appraisals and recommends and/or initiate corrective actions wherever necessary to improve performance and/or established personal and/or organizational goals
  • Participates in the recruitment of staff for the Department and recommends transfers, promotion, termination and leave in accordance with established Human Resource Policies and Procedures;
  • Develops and implements in collaboration with the Human Resource Department, a programme of Succession Planning for the Department to facilitate continuity and the availability of required skills and competencies to meet the needs of the Department;
  • Provides leadership and guidance to direct reports through effective planning, delegation, communication, training, mentoring and coaching;
  • Ensures the welfare and developmental needs of staff in the Department are clearly identified and addressed;
  • Establishes and maintains a system that fosters a culture of teamwork, employee empowerment and commitment to the Department’s and Company’s goals

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  •  Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field Or HEART Trust Level 3 NVQ in Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance or equivalent qualification Or a Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Three years experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • HEART Level 1 HVAC Certification and 1-year experience in servicing refrigeration and industrial cooling systems
