JOB TITLE: MRI Technologist

 

Reports to: Senior Radiographer

 

Accountable to: Medical Director / Radiology Manager

The MRI Technologist is required to perform diagnostic testing by taking images of the body using computerized MRI Scanners. The technologist must interpret the physician’s instructions, explain MRI procedures to patients, and select software options and imaging parameters when adjusting the MRI machine.

 

Job Summary

 

  • Take brief medical histories from patients.
  • Attach physiological monitoring leads to the patient’s finger, chest, waist, or other body parts.
  • Calibrate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) console or peripheral hardware.
  • Conduct screening interviews of patients to identify contra-indications such as ferrous objects, pregnancy prosthetic heart valves, cardiac pacemakers, or tattoos.
  • Connect physiological leads to physiological acquisition control (PAC) units.
  • Create backup copies of images by transferring images from disk to storage media.
  • Develop or produce film records of magnetic resonance images.
  • Explain MRI procedures to patients, patient representatives, or family members.
  • Inject intravenously contrast dyes such as gadolinium contrast, in accordance with the scope of practice.
  • Inspect images for quality using MRI scanner equipment and laser camera.
  • Select appropriate imaging techniques or coils to produce required images.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to MRI scanners or peripheral equipment such as monitors or coils.
  • Operate optical systems to capture dynamic MRI images such as functional brain imaging, real-time organ motion tracking, or musculoskeletal anatomy and trajectory visualization.
  • Test MRI equipment to ensure proper functioning and performance in accordance with specifications.
  • Writes reports or notes to summarize testing procedures or outcomes for physicians or other medical.

 

 Knowledge and Experience

Preferred Education / Qualifications:             

Bachelor of Science or Higher Diploma in Radiological Technology with advanced training in CT, X-Ray, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Registered with the Radiographer’s Board of Trinidad and Tobago to practice MRI imaging.

 

Knowledge:

  1. Attention to detail.
  2. Able to work well independently as well as part of a team.
  3. PC literate – in-depth knowledge of Word Processing.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication.

 

Skills:

  1. Self-motivated, positive, confident, can-do attitude required to achieve the momentum needed to carry out the day-to-day requirements of the job.

  3. Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and maintain a high degree of professionalism.
  4. Confidentiality and discretion in handling patients’ files and information.
  5. The job holder must be able to prioritize with little supervision and meet tight deadlines
