MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH

SALARY: CI$115,572 - CI$147,912 PER ANNUM

The post-holder will provide expert knowledge and advice on standards and practice in public health and be an advocate for proactive public health initiatives. This position is focused on safeguarding the health of the population, maintaining a close linkage between public health and primary health-care programmes, and aligning public health matters with the objectives of the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Monitors, assesses and reports on the health of the public in conjunction with the Public Health department and the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
• Monitors the effective functioning of all national health protection programmes.
• Ensures a system for the detection, monitoring and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases of public health significance.
• Provides the Ministry of Health & Wellness with sound technical advice on health issues and disease control.
• Develops multi-agency public health programmes.
• Communicates effectively and diplomatically with the media and all sectors of the society on behalf of the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
• Participates in the management of health sector disaster preparedness.

• Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

The successful candidate must possess the following:

• A Medical degree (M.D., M.B., and Ch.B.) from an accredited institution and an advanced degree in Public Health (M.P.H.) or equivalent.
• A minimum of 3-5 years relevant post graduate experience.
• Ability to be registered with the Cayman Islands Medical and Dental Council.
• Have appropriate clinical competencies & specialty training in Public Health.
• Have extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of general medicine including the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of communicable diseases.
• Experience in successful leadership of disease management programmes.

Benefits will be determined in accordance with the Public Service Management Act and Personnel Regulations, the Public Service Pensions Act and the CINICO Health Plan as may be amended from time to time.

Fixed Term Contracts apply for successful Non-Caymanian applicants.
