Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA):

 

MANAGER, CENTRAL STERILE PROCESSING

 

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that an efficient and continuous supply of sterile products is provided to the patients and to ensure an unbroken supply of surgical trays is provided to the theatres. Also, develop training systems with the Central Sterile Processing department (CSPD) which guarantee good manufacturing practice and allow for the development of a Quality Control programme to monitor same.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manages the sterile service production within the Complex.
  • Directs and supervises the work of all subordinates engaged in activities relating to the CSPD.
  • Establishes and maintains a comprehensive set of Standard Operational Procedures for the CSPD.
  • Ensures effectiveness of in-service training programmes developed and conducted in the department.
  • Trains, evaluates and counsels the staff of the CSPD.
  • Develops and conducts in-service training programmes for employees of the department.
  • Ensures the attainment of departmental goals, objectives and programmes.
  • Monitors the overall cost, timelines and quality of sterile processing and distribution services assigned to the CSPD.
  • Prepares budgets and quotation requests.
  • Develops and maintains a complete computerised costing system and provides management reporting as required. 
  • Assists in the preparation of tender evaluation documents.
  • Procures emergency parts with petty cash.
  • Manages the theatre tray service; and in consultation with theatre managers and consultants, advises on tray contents.
  • Ensures distribution of sterile supplier to all wards and departments within the Complex, and to all other users of the service.
  • Ensures the maintenance of manufacturing protocols and adherence to Quality Control performance standards.
  • Ensures the establishment and maintenance of agreed quality standards in association with the Consultant Microbiologist and the Infection Control Committee.
  • Advises on purchase and use of sterile supplies and clinical goods used within the Complex.
  • Monitors and reports on the quality of instruments, raw materials and pre-sterile purchased goods.
  • Manages the information gathering services associated with pack and instrument distribution.
  • Prepares and updates as necessary a comprehensive Product Catalogue for use as a training, production and quality control tool in the CSPD.
  • Ensures the efficient use of equipment and other CSPD resources especially in terms of maximising equipment availability and utilisation.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the appropriate organisational relationship.

Minimum Requirements and Experience:

  • Degree or other professional qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Industrial Management of any discipline involving significant exposure to production management or management science.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years working experience, six (6) of which should have afforded substantial meaningful exposure to the “inner workings” of a large scale industrial, commercial or service operations and three (3) of which should have been spent in production operations at a level which required the direction, coordinating and/or otherwise positively influencing the inputs, activities and outputs of some productive system which included professional or senior administrative staff.
  • This requirement may be relaxed in favour of both:
    • Acceptable evidence of having pursued relevant tertiary level, academic training up to some recognized certificate of diploma level; and
    • Minimum of two (2) years directly relevant working experience.
    • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in the strategic management of a complex health care organization including a teaching hospital, large primary care facility and/or public health authority; five (5) of which must be in operating theatre.
    • Any other equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

 

Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago.
