- Ensure that all documentation relating to import transactions are processed in a timely manner and conform to legal entry requirements and Customs Laws.
- Compare shipping documents with internal and Government Purchase Orders to verify accuracy of pricing, product descriptions, and quantities shipped, minimizing delays and excess costs.
- Manage advanced files to obtain Bills of Lading or Airway Bills from shipping agents for pre-clearance processing.
- Ensure the declared Customs value on the Airway Bill corresponds with the total value of the Commercial and/or CARICOM invoices.
- Ensure 100% accuracy in the application of Duty and VAT rates, and verify the computation of import duties and CIF values.
- Manage specialized divisional requirements such as Import Permits, Import Licenses, Chemical Drawdowns, and Notices of Approval for timely clearance.
- Manage the Government Declaration process in line with established KPIs to minimize costs.
- Manage consolidations at Freight Forwarders for cost control and shipment prioritization.
- Resolve routine Customs and shipping issues to ensure quick clearance and delivery.
- Secure Marine Insurance coverage for relevant shipments upon receipt of documentation and prior to arrival.
- Ensure timely payment of Customs Duty, VAT, ocean/air freight, and local handling charges to achieve OTIF (On-Time In-Full) clearance.
- Investigate stock losses and prepare reports for submission to Accounts.
- Investigate demurrage invoices and prepare payment vouchers.
- Negotiate competitive freight rates and advise on optimum shipping options.
- Administer the claims process for all non-marine insurance claims and ensure timely settlements.
- Respond to queries from the Customs Department, including providing product details, brochures, price catalogues, or shipment information as required.
- Maintain shipment files for each supplier for reference and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate records of licenses, concessions, and permits.
- Perform other duties as required to enhance the operations of the Company.
Qualification, Experience and Requirement:
- A minimum of five (5) CXC passes, including Mathematics and English Language
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field OR a recognized professional certification in Shipping, Customs, Freight Forwarding, or International Trade, combined with relevant work experience will be an asset.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a shipping/customs/logistics environment.
- Strong knowledge of import/export procedures and customs regulations
- Knowledge of customs classifications will be an asset.
- Or relevant combination of training and experience.
