The incumbent is expected to ensure that all shipments are cleared accurately in a timely manner to avoid penalty charges.

Some Main Responsibilities include: 

 

  • Ensure that all documentation relating to import transactions are processed in a timely manner and conform to legal entry requirements and Customs Laws.
  • Compare shipping documents with the internal and Gov’t purchase orders to ensure that the prices are accurate, the correct description is applied and correct quantities are shipped against relevant Purchase Orders, to reduce impact of delays or excess costs to company
  • Managing advanced files to gain bill of lading or airway bill from shipping agent for advanced processing
  • Ensure that the Declared Customs Value on the Airway bill corresponds with the total value of the commercial/Caricom invoice/s.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy in the correct Rate of Duty/Vat is applied to all shipments and verifying the computation of import duties and C.I.F values
  • Manage specialized needs of Division’s goods for timely clearance e.g. Import Permits, Import Licenses, Chemical Drawdowns, Notice of Approvals
  • Manage the Government Declaration process to minimize costs to company within KPI
  • Manage consolidations at Freight Forwarder for cost control and priority
  • Resolve routine Customs and shipping issues for quick clearances / arrival
  • Secure Marine Insurance coverage for relevant import shipments upon availability of documents and before arrival.
  • Ensure the timely payment of customs duty, VAT, ocean / air freight and local handling charges for OTIF clearance.
  • Investigate stock losses for investigation report to Accounts
  • Investigate demurrage invoices and prepare payment voucher.
  • Negotiate competitive freight rates and advise on optimum shipping options
  • Administer the Claims process for all non-marine insurance claims and ensure timely settlements
  • Attend to queries from the Customs Department e.g. providing details/information on a particular item/shipment or brochures, price catalogues etc. as requested
  • Maintain shipment files on each supplier for future reference/follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate records of Licenses, concessions and permits
  • Perform other duties that may be required to enhance the operations of the Company

 Qualification, Experience and Requirement: 

  • A minimum of five (5) CXC passes, including Mathematics and English Language
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a shipping/customs/logistics environment
  • Knowledge of classifications will be an asset.
  • Or relevant combination of training and experience.
  • A valid Police Certificate of Good Character.
