Our client in the Finance Sector is seeking to hire, on a permanent basis, a Loan Officer I for their Couva location.

Salary: $9,073.00

Job Purpose:

The Loan Officer I examines, evaluates and processes credit and loan applications. They should have extensive experience in underwriting the loan types offered by the company. The Loan Officer I works closely with the Loan Supervisor and/or Branch Manager to ensure that the policy and procedures of the company are met.

Job Duties:

  • Interview members and accurately fill out loan application form, obtain all the necessary documentation to make the loan decisions, properly secure the collateral used to qualify for the loan and approve the loan (if authorized).
  • Provide information to the membership concerning the different types of loans offered, the terms and interest rates and the documentation required to be considered for a
  • Make loan decisions in a timely fashion to meet member
  • Grant loans according to the company’s Retail and Commercial Lending policies and procedures and in compliance with local law(s).
  • Closing of loan process by ensuring that all relevant documentation from member is received and signed and cheques/funds are delivered to the member/their
  • Provide financial counselling to members in the wise use of
  • Refer all borrower requests for loan extensions, refinances, or any changes to original loan terms to the Branch Manager and/or Loan Supervisor or as designated in
  • Make counter offers to borrowers that are trustworthy but cannot qualify for the loan they
  • Remain current on all personal credit obligations with the
  • Participate in training seminars and workshops to improve loan underwriting skills and
  • Verify attorney and valuator
  • Provide monthly reports to management and staff or as
  • Conduct site visits and visit Host Companies to conduct Business Development presentations when
  • Liaise with attorneys and valuators for mortgage searches and
  • Liaise with branches on loan form
  • Make suggestions to the Branch Manager and/or Loan Supervisor concerning changes to the Retail and Commercial Lending policies and or
  • Identifies strategies to drive new loan business and in so doing meet individual loan targets
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of member accounts, ensuring that accounts are serviced according to arrangements and all necessary follow up is completed for past due accounts
  • Cross sells products and services to members to enhance relationship
  • Research all consumer investigations received from the credit bureau and respond before due
  • Process loans in the absence of the loan processing
  • Follow-up and provide weekly reports with delinquent accounts and monthly pipeline reports or as
  • Performs related duties as may be required by the Branch Manager or Loan
  • Any other duties or special projects based on the objectives of the

Job Responsibilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Possession of a First Degree in Business Management/Finance/Banking/Economics.
  • Possession of Level I ACCA and/or any other similar qualification would be an
  • Diploma in Banking (DIB).
  • Possession of a GCE/ CXC/CSEC Ordinary Level Certificate with passes in five (5) subjects inclusive of English Language and
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in credit/ loan assessment or
  • Two years of experience in Customer
  • Completion of loan or credit training program would be considered and asset
  • Knowledge of the Credit Union Movement would be considered an asset
