The Legal, Governance and Compliance Assistant provides administrative, compliance and customer service support as well as research and analysis of a variety of governance and compliance matters.

The Legal, Governance and Compliance Assistant acts as support staff to the Legal, Governance and Compliance Department. The position provides administrative, compliance and customer service support as well as research and analysis of a variety of governance and compliance matters to ensure compliance with regulations, rules and laws that the Company and its subsidiaries are subject to. The Legal, Governance and Compliance Assistant is expected to organize, manage, and coordinate office administration and procedures, in order to ensure organizational effectiveness, and efficiency for the Stakeholders, Board, Committees, Branches, and Subsidiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange and attend meetings of the Board of Directors and Board Committees for the purpose of capturing meeting minutes, prepare Board and Board Committee minutes, drafting of meeting agendas for Board and Board Committees, preparing action items, preparing Board and Board Committee meeting packs, prepare and maintain Board and Board Committee meeting calendar.
  • Assist with the coordination, review, maintenance and registration of the Company’s Policies and Procedures Manuals, in accordance with relevant regulations and acts.
  • Assist with the planning of staff AML/CFT training and development; and assist with maintaining Training Registers.
  • Assist with the onboarding process of new staff and Directors and assist with carrying out the due diligence exercise and maintaining updated records.
  • Review and maintain Customers’ Risk Management Assessments and follow up on requests for information or documentation required to complete analysis
  • Manage alerts in the AML/Risk Management System and escalate matters to the Head of Legal, Governance and Compliance/Nominated Officer
  • Assist with the updating and filing of documents at the Companies Office of Jamaica, JIPO and other relevant government offices on behalf of the Company and its Subsidiaries to ensure relevant documentation is renewed and updated in order to keep the Company and its Subsidiaries compliant.

 Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required with at least three (3) years’ experience
  • Certification in Compliance would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of various regulations governing AML/CFT/CPF is an asset
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory reporting requirement of a Microcredit Institution
  • Confidential and of the highest integrity with the discretion of the company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all internal stakeholders, government offices, and regulatory agencies.
  • Keen attention to detail, problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Excellent research, record keeping, and documentation skills.
