Our client, a regulatory authority, is seeking a Legal Counsel to become part of a distinguished team dedicated to the effective enforcement of legislation.

This role plays a vital part in anti-corruption efforts, supported by highly trained personnel and robust operational frameworks, systems, and procedures. 

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing legal and policy support to the organisation ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and Government procedures as well as maintaining alignment with organisational guidelines. The chosen candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide legal advisory support across multiple areas in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Liaise with other authorities on legal matters affecting the organisation.
  • Instruct, brief, and liaise with external counsel on legal matters involving the organisation.
  • Represent the organisation in court; participate in parliamentary proceedings and conduct legal proceedings on its behalf.
  • Prepare submissions, reports, and communications in  keeping with policies and recommendations.
  • Draft and finalise contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Provide advice on labour and employment laws.
  • Review and recommend updates to legislation, regulations, and other legal instruments relevant to the organisation.

Preferred Profile

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)
  • Certificate of Legal Education (CLE)
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a similar position, preferably in a Public Sector Organisation
  • Practicing Attorney with at least seven (7) years' experience in general legal practice
  • Master of Laws (LL.M) would be an asset
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills while displaying a high level of confidentiality, honesty and integrity
  • Specialised training in negotiations
  • Formal training in the Government Procurement Policies and Guidelines
