Legal Counsel I

To perform professional legal work for the Commission under the direct supervision of higher-level legal staff. Duties include appearing in Court, completing legal research, providing legal advice and opinions, and drafting legal documents on matters involving the Commission.

Key Responsibilities

• Litigation Support

• Represents the Commission before the courts of Trinidad and Tobago

• Legal Advice and Support

• Provides legal advice on less complex legal matters

• Legal Research and Analysis

• Conducts research, interprets laws, rules and regulations and prepares legal opinions and briefs with respect to less complex legal matters

• Compliance and Regulatory Support

• Assists in reviewing and vetting applications from potential licensees

• Document Drafting and Review

• Drafts cabinet/Ministerial notes, memoranda, letters and other documents on legal matters.

• Policy Development:
  • Supports the development and implementation of policies and guidelines to internal processes and the operations of the Commission.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from an accredited or recognised institution
• Legal Education Certificate (LEC) or equivalent
• Admission to practice law in Trinidad and Tobago
