Massy Wood is currently recruiting for a Lead Piping Engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry.

 

Overview / Responsibilites

The Lead Piping Engineer is responsible for the overall technical, budget, schedule and resourcing responsibility for the discipline on a project.

They are also responsible for the management of discipline resources on a contract or project in a manner which promotes excellence of performance both for the individuals concerned, and Massy Wood Group Ltd., as well as ensuring the necessary processes are in operation to ensure Technical Integrity of the discipline output within contract or project.

The Lead Piping Engineer is also required to represent Massy Wood Group in the industry in relation to discipline specific issues and business development.

  • Liaise with the Discipline Function Lead to identify and implement improvements in discipline working practices.
  • Capture and communicate lessons learnt to the Discipline Function Lead.
  • Coach / guide discipline personnel on a majority of discipline applications.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Massy Wood Group and project specific Engineering Management Systems and Procedures relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrates the appropriate competence level for the job.
  • Is a source for guidance on a majority of discipline applications.
  • Coordinate technical matters within discipline and with other disciplines as required.
  • Technical assurance of discipline deliverables, discipline content of IDC prints and vendor documents.
  • Supervise discipline personnel ensuring Massy Wood Group and project specific Management Systems and Procedures are followed.
  • Assist Discipline Function Lead with suggestions for improvements in discipline procedures and working practices.
  • Assist Discipline Function Lead with development of discipline personnel.
  • Supporting Business Development activities as required.
  • Knowledge of, adherence to and enforcement of Massy Wood Group and project specific Project Management Systems and Procedures relevant to the discipline.
  • Develop discipline scopes of work, estimates and schedules.
  • Manage the overall contract/project discipline scope of work, budget, schedule and resource requirement with respect to delivery, monitoring and changes.
  • Knowledge and application of client specific standards.
  • Discipline focal point for the contract/project.
  • Assist Discipline Function Lead with management of discipline personnel working on the contract/project.
  • Responsible for resource planning to maintain adequate staff levels considering short and long term requirements of the contract/project.
  • Self-checking of own work.
  • Follow procedures for document control and discipline design, e.g. creation of    discipline design deliverables, use and retention of check prints / IDC prints.
  • Check discipline deliverables, discipline content of IDC prints and vendor documents.
  • Approve of discipline deliverables, discipline content of IDC prints and vendor documents for the contract.
  • Originate discipline deliverables.
  • Assist the Discipline Function Lead as directed.
  • Produce solutions that are safe, cost effective, fit for purpose and add value to both Massy Wood Group and the client.
  • Ensure operational and maintenance issues are addressed in the design.
  • Provide discipline input to procurement and construction activities.
  • Conduct surveys, both onshore and offshore, to determine information to allow execution of scopes of work.
  • Ensure discipline is represented at contract Design Reviews, HAZOPs, Constructability Assessments, technical meetings/projects etc.
  • Communicate with Discipline Engineers and Designers to ensure design integrity and consistency.
  • Keep a log of competencies gained through further education, external training and internal / on the job training.
  • Identify areas where skills are lacking and suggest methods of improving.
  • Membership of a professional body preferred. Work towards fulfilment of the requirements to obtain either professional or registered engineering status.
  • Deliver the contract discipline scope of work within man-hour budget.
  • Deliver the contract discipline scope of work to schedule.
  • Maintain an overview of all discipline work for the contract by regular contact with Project Management.
  • Liaise with client discipline representative.
  • Manage increase or reduction in discipline scope of work for the contract and advising Project Management accordingly.
  • Identify areas of concern during the course of any project to Project Management while proposing necessary corrective action.
  • Identify discipline scopes of work for the contract.
  • Prepare discipline CTR estimates for the contract.
  • Provide input to project execution plans and schedules for the contract.

 

Qualifications

  • First Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc, BEng).
  • Membership of a professional body preferred.
  • Professional, chartered or registered engineering status preferred.
  • Second Degree (MSc, MBA) preferred.

Competencies & Experience

  • Typically a minimum of 12 years’ relevant experience.
  • Possesses skilled application of discipline software and tools.
  • Possesses skilled application of a majority of discipline applications.
  • Possesses skilled application in managing personnel.
  • Possesses skilled application in managing jobs / projects.
  • Possesses a reasonable command of the English language and must be able to communicate English effectively in the field of Engineering.
  • Assessed competent as a Lead Engineer in accordance with the Massy WG Competency System.
  • Valid Certificate of Good Character (must not be older than 6 months).
  • Preference will be given to national citizens or permanent residents of Trinidad & Tobago.
