We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Lead Design Coordinator to lead our project delivery coordination function. This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and overseas how multidisciplinary design projects are planned, coordinated, and delivered across the organisation.

SJE Consultants Ltd is a forward-thinking and dynamic Infrastructure Engineering Consultancy Firm based in Kingston, Jamaica, involved in a series of Infrastructure projects.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly capable Lead Design Coordinator to lead our project coordination function, ensuring that multidisciplinary design projects are planned, coordinated, and delivered with discipline and predictability. The successful candidate will establish and uphold delivery standards across the firm's design portfolio, manage competing priorities with confidence, and serve as the firm's single point of authority for project delivery coordination.

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

WHAT WILL YOU BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

Project and Design Coordination Leadership

  • Leading and managing the project coordination function for all design-related projects
  • Assigning and overseeing project coordinators in line with portfolio priorities
  • Establishing and upholding design coordination standards, procedures, and controls
  • Ensuring the coordinated issue of multidisciplinary design deliverables to agreed milestones

Multidisciplinary Interface Management

  • Overseeing coordination across all active design disciplines
  • Owning and managing the structured design review process across all project stages, including formal tracking of review comments and close-out actions
  • Ensuring design interfaces, dependencies, and constraints are identified and actively managed

Programme, Schedule, and Resource Control

  • Reviewing and approving design project schedules and delivery strategies
  • Approving project staffing plans and arbitrating resource conflicts across the portfolio
  • Monitoring portfolio-level risks, bottlenecks, and delivery performance
  • Coordinating and tracking statutory approvals, permits, and regulatory submissions, ensuring lead times are factored into delivery programmes

Governance and Escalation

  • Upholding approved governance frameworks and delivery controls across the portfolio
  • Overseeing project time approval governance and monitoring time and cost trends
  • Acting as the primary escalation point for project coordinators and supporting executive and client engagements as delegated

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent professional training and demonstrated competency
  • Minimum of 8 years' professional experience in civil engineering or infrastructure projects, with demonstrable progression in responsibility
  • At least 3 years' experience in a multidisciplinary design office environment
  • Proven experience as a Team Lead or Design Lead on at least two civil engineering design projects
  • Demonstrated competence across standard project stages from concept through detailed design and construction support

Added Advantages

  • Professional registration with a recognised engineering body
  • PMP certification or equivalent
  • Experience on large-scale public-sector or infrastructure programmes

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of civil engineering design processes and design management best practices
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent
  • Experience within formal governance and project controls frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence multidisciplinary professional teams
  • Sound judgement, strong communication skills, and high emotional intelligence in dealings with senior staff, executives, and clients

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluency in written and verbal English
  • Must be resident in Jamaica or willing to relocate
