Laboratory Technician I performs moderately difficult laboratory tests and analyses on samples provided by clients.

JOB SUMMARY

Laboratory Technician I performs moderately difficult laboratory tests and analyses on samples provided by clients. Assists in the construction and maintenance of technological projects and in the maintenance and operation of technical apparatus. The employee is expected to make routine tests and to report his/her findings independently. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful applicant will be required to

  1. Perform routine physical tests and operations (e.g. machinery etc.) on engineering materials in conformation with accepted standards.
  2. Analyse and tests rocks, industrial products and materials.
  3. Perform routine physical, engineering and chemical tests on synthetic materials.
  4. Assist in the construction of prototype machinery.
  5. Maintain proper records of work done in laboratories, pilot, plant, etc.
  6. Maintain and repairs electronic equipment.
  7. Perform related works as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

1. Training as evidenced by a general certificate of education ordinary level or CXC general proficiency level, with passes in five (5) subjects including: Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry and/or Physics and/or Biological Science.

2. Experience in operating heavy machinery will be an asset.

3. Equivalent combination of experience and training

 

REMUNERATION

Salary will be paid in Range 28 ($6,890 - $8,560 - $9,283) and a Gratuity of 20% will be paid at the end of the contract period.

ASSETS:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of or experience working in ISO/IEC 17025 environment is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical ability to safely lift and carry loads of up to 20 kg per hand (40 kg total).
  • Ability to operate machinery such as tensiles, bends and charpys.
  • Physical ability to ascend stepladder while carrying load.
  • Minimal exposure to chemicals.

 IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

  • Police certificate of character is required.
  •    A pre-employment medical evaluation, fully funded by the Bureau, must be

     successfully completed prior to appointment.
