Laboratory Assistant I/ Driver

The Laboratory Assistant I/Driver performs routine non-technical laboratory duties such as ensuring the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies and non-skilled laboratory tasks including custodial duties of laboratory equipment.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs routine non-technical laboratory duties such as ensuring the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies and non-skilled laboratory tasks including custodial duties of laboratory equipment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful applicant will be required to

1. Perform Routine non-technical laboratory and custodial duties
2. Perform routine unskilled laboratory tasks
3. Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
4. Drive the Bureau’s vehicle and transport staff and equipment

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

1. Training as evidenced by the possession of five CXC or GCE ‘O’ Level passes including Mathematics, English and science subject or its equivalent.

2. Must possess a valid driver’s permit.

3. Certificate in Defensive driving, knowledge of Laboratory procedures and the use of Engineering, Electrical and Laboratory equipment will be an asset. 

4. Two (2) years experience in a similar position is preferred and the incumbent must be able to work with a team and possess good communication skills.

REMUNERATION

 Salary will be paid in Range 19 ($5,494 - $6,591 - $7,046) and a Gratuity of 20% will be paid at the end of the contract period.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Position requires working in the field (i.e: Gas stations, Markets, etc.)
• Physical ability to safely lift and carry loads of up to 20 kg per hand (40 kg total).
• May be exposed to environmental elements such as dust.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

• Police certificate of character is required.
• Valid Driver’s Permit for class 4 vehicles.
• A pre-employment medical evaluation, fully funded by the Bureau, must be successfully completed prior to appointment.

• All candidates will undertake a Driving Assessment on manual vehicle.
