LECTURERS (FULL TIME) (School of Music)
Areas of Specialization – Jazz Piano; Contemporary Voice; Percussion; Trumpet/Trombone or Clarinet/Flute (classical & jazz)
The incumbent is responsible for general lecturing as well as coordinating responsibilities in the respective programme/course areas. Candidates should specialize in either classical or contemporary music and able to teach courses at the undergraduate level. Candidates must also be actively engaged in their practice.
DUTIES:
- Plan and deliver assigned courses to students in performance and music education
- Develop up-to-date course description/outlines/syllabi and ensure that these are available to students at the commencement of course.
- Participate in assessment procedures, for example, setting and vetting question papers, invigilating, and general involvement in assessment process and curriculum development.
- Assist with developmental projects in the School of Music.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Jazz/Contemporary Piano:
- Master’s degree in Music from an accredited institution
- Successful experience as a teacher of jazz piano
- Successful experience as a jazz ensemble/combo/band teacher
- Evidence of performance ability at a professional level (Audition/link to live performance)
- Ability to teach jazz pedagogy and literature or jazz theory and ear training
Contemporary Voice
- Master’s degree in Music from an accredited institution
- Successful experience as a teacher of contemporary voice teacher
- Successful experience as a vocal jazz ensemble/choir teacher
- Evidence of performance ability at a professional level (Audition/link to live performance)
- Ability to teach vocal pedagogy related to contemporary styles
- Functional piano skills including the ability to accompany with traditional notation as well as chord charts, is required
- Vocal and/or instrumental arranging and song writing skills highly desirable
Trumpet/Trombone Or Clarinet/Flute (classical & jazz)
- Master’s degree in Music from an accredited institution
- Successful experience as a teacher of trumpet/trombone
- Successful experience as a jazz ensemble/wind ensemble/concert band teacher
- Evidence of performance ability at a professional level (Audition/link to live performance)
- Ability to teach brass pedagogy and literature
Steel Pan & Percussion (classical & jazz)
- Master’s degree in Music from an accredited institution
- Successful experience as a teacher of steel pan & percussion teacher
- Successful experience as a steel band teacher and performer
- Evidence of performance ability at a professional level (Audition/link to live performance)
- Ability to teach steel band techniques and arranging
OTHER/GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT INCLUDE:
- Teacher Certification would be an advantage
- Relevant experience in teaching at the tertiary level
- Proven ability to devise, advise and manage learning programmes
- Ability to creatively design teaching and learning material
- Ability to employ appropriate assessment methods
- Capacity to work well under pressure and to cope with unpredictable hours
- Ability to teach other courses depending on candidate’s experience and needs of the department
- Team player who works well with colleagues
EMOLUMENTS:
Basic Salary (Range): $2,074,774.00 - $2,405,231.00 per annum
Allowances totaling: $310,535.00 per annum
