Junior Business Performance Analyst, entry-level Finance role supporting the Management Accountant in collecting, validating, and analysing operational and commercial performance data and preparing reports/dashboards on key metrics.

Job Summary

The Junior Business Performance Analyst is an entry level/early career role within the Finance Team that supports the Management Accountant in capturing, validating and analysing operational and commercial performance metrics at source. The role focuses on the legwork of data collection, basic analysis and preparation of reports and dashboards on key indicators such as material and liquid wastage, stock losses, production efficiency, labour and overhead cost per unit, and gross profit by SKU and customer. The Junior Analyst works under the direction of the Management Accountant, who leads proactive performance management and engagement with the CEO and Line Managers.

Key Responsibilities 

1. Support to the Management Accountant

  • Work under the guidance of the Management Accountant to implement the performance measurement framework and KPI toolkits across the business.
  • Prepare data extracts, standard reports, and draft analyses for review and refinement by the Management Accountant before circulation to Managers and the CEO.
  • Assist the Management Accountant in preparing materials for monthly performance reviews, management meetings and presentations.
2. Data Capture at Source
  • Carry out the day to day activities required to capture key operational and commercial data at source (production lines, warehouses, sales systems, manual logs)
  • Ensure that data is colected on time, in the agreed formats and from the correct sources, following procedures defined by the Management Accountant.
  • Liaise with supervisors and line managers to resolve data gaps or inconsistencies and escalate issues to the Management Accountant when needed.
3. Data Validation and Reconciliation Support 
  • Perform first-level checks on data accuracy and completeness (e.g. comparing production quantities, wastage, stock movements, and sales volumes to expected ranges or prior periods)
  • Assist the Management Accountant and Finance Team in reconciling operational data to inventory, cost of sales, and other key financial balances.
  • Document data issues and maintain logs so recurring problems can be addressed systematically.
4. Operational Performance Reporting (Support Role)
  • Produce standard daily/weekly/monthly reports and dashboards on:
-Material and liquid wastage by product, line and shift,
-Stock losses and adjustments by location and category
-Production volujmes, yields, labour hours and basic cost per unit measures.
  • Update existing templates, charts, and dashboards as directed by the Management Accountant, ensuring consistency of formats and definitions.
  • Highlight obvious exceptions or unusual trends to the Management Accountant for deeper analysis.
5. Commercial and Gross Profit Analytics (Support Role)
  • Compile and organise data required for sales and gross profit analysis by SKU, product category and customer.
  • Assist in identifying lost or declining customers and changes in margins by preparing comparison tables and trend views for the Management Accountant to interpret.
  • Supoort the Management Accountant with data gathering for new product analyses, pricing exercises and promotion reviews.
6. Management Reporting Support
  • Assemble performance packs and slide decks by updating tables, charts and narrative sections with the latest validated data, as guided by the Management Accountant. 
  • Take notes in performance review meetings (when invited) and help track action items, updating reports to reflect progress on KPIs.
  • Maintain orgamised files and version control for performance reports and analytic workbooks.
7. Process and Toolkit Support
  • Help roll out KPI templates, data collection forms, and simple process checklists to operational and sales teams as designed by the Management Accountant.
  • Provide basic user support (eg how to fill templates, where to submit data) and channel more complex queries to the Management Accountant.
  • Suggest practical improvements to data capture routines and templates based on day to day experience. 
Reporting Deliverables (Prepared, Then Reviewed by Management Accountant) 
The Junior Business Performance Analyst will prepare, for review and sign-off by the Management Accountant:
  • Daily/weekly/monthly operational KPI reports covering wastage, stock losses, production efficiency and labour/overhead cost per unit.
  • Monthly sales and gross proft data packs by SKU and customer, including basic summaries of lost/declining customers.
  • Monthly departmental KPI scorecard updates with current data populated and exceptions flagged.
  • Input tables and supporting schedules for management and Board-level performance decks.
Person Specification

Requirements and Skills
  • A Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field, early stage, professional qualifications (e.g. ACCA, CPA) would be an asset.
  • 2-4 year's experience in finance, cost accounting, business analysis or related analytical role, preferably in a manufacruring, FMCG or similar operational environment,
  • Good working knowledge of basic accounting concepts and cost/variance analysis; willinginess to learn more advanced performance management techniques from the Management Accountant.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot, lookups, charts); exposure to Power BI or similar tools is an advantage but no essential if the candidate is willing to learn.
  • Comfortable working with large data sets, with strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and checks.
  • Good communication skills to interact with supervisors, line managers and Finance colleagues in collecting and clarifying data.
  • Proactive, organised and able to follow defined procedures while escalating issues appropriately.
