Junior Accountant

Overview:

A well-established hotel in Tobago is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant to join its finance team. The ideal candidate will support the accounting function in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and contributing to the financial health of the operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily accounting activities including verifying, classifying, and recording financial transactions.
  • Reconcile bank statements and prepare lodgements to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances; verify accounts payable and ensure timely processing of invoices.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly budgets, forecasts, and periodic financial reports.
  • Lead periodic stock counts in collaboration with department heads and prepare related audit schedules.
  • Process and reconcile accounting documents such as invoices, receipts, and journal entries.
  • Generate financial summaries and ad hoc reports for management as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with current accounting standards and tax regulations in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned by the Finance Manager or General Manager.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; ACCA Level 2 or equivalent is acceptable.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably within the hospitality or service industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax laws applicable in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks is preferred.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Discreet and professional with a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
