Our Client, Sai Supreme International, is seeking to fill the position of Metal Cutter.

Job Purpose:

The Metal Cutter is responsible for cutting scrap metal items using torches, saws, and other applicable tools to ensure that materials are of the required size as per the requirements of the company and its customers as well as to ensure that the materials can be handled efficiently and safely. 

Education/Experience

• Prior knowledge and experience in cutting with cutting torch.
• Must be literate and numerate.
• Must have knowledge of lifting techniques.
• Prior experience using a handheld cut-off saw will be an asset.
• Prior knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) will be an asset.
• Prior knowledge and understanding of Hot Work Permits will be an asset.

Major Tasks/Duties

• Cutting materials with appropriate tools to include cutting torches, power tools etc. to sizes appropriate for loading.
• Monitor and direct safety activities in relation to cutting activities.
• Liaise with the fire watch to open hot work where necessary.

• Be able to handle items of varying sizes and weights, up to 50lbs.

• Be able to perform under pressure in fast paced environment.
• Be able to work outside of regular work hours (including weekends and holidays). 

Accountability/Responsibility

• Inspect your PPEs before usage.
• Ensure relevant PPEs are used while working.
• Observe all safety protocols and procedures.
• Check and maintain all cutting equipment in safe working condition.
• Maintain accountability for all assigned cutting equipment
• Ensure that all equipment is used in a manner in accordance with safety requirements.
• Ensure relevant PPEs are used while working.
• Maintain vigilance of work area for safety and/or security breaches.
• For scrap area, maintain good housekeeping during and at the end of each day.

Work Pressure & Physical Demand

• Will be required to work in various weather conditions including extreme heat.
• Will be required to work around hazardous material and conditions.
• Will be required to work at elevated locations, requiring climbing, walking and sometimes working in awkward positions in relation to equipment.
