CAREER OPPORTUNITY - COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

The Communications Officer will support the company’s internal and external communications strategy. He/she will assist in the writing and disseminating of publicity material, respond to inquiries from the public and media, and coordinate promotional events.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate communication and promotional material to all tourism stakeholders.
  • Assist with the maximization of positive news coverage and the mitigation of negative news coverage through the placement of news releases as assigned.
  • Gain media coverage for the company’s activities as assigned.
  • Assist with collating and preparing the company’s newsletter.
  • Assist with briefings for management and other personnel facing the media.
  • Contribute articles on the company’s activities via all media avenues.
  • Assist in the coordination of media events such as press launches, briefings, awards, public relations activations, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, briefs and other documents on tourism and related topics, as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with local and international media, journalists, and other key stakeholders, and maintain a media database.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
  • Proficient in design and publishing software.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid editing and researching skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Good understanding of tourism and the Barbados product.
  • Must be ready to work in a dynamic environment and prepared to meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • An associate degree in communications, public relations, or a related discipline with five (5) years’ experience OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related discipline with three (3) years’ experience
