The Marine Operations Underwriter - Broker Services will have the ability to bind cover up to a specified amount, provide quotes, manage claims and receivables, deal with customer service issues and engage in marketing of Beacon’s services.

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Provide timely quotations for all classes of business in keeping with The Beacon’s guidelines and approved Limits of Authority.
  • Bind Coverage for quotations provided and accept New Business for Marine Cargo and Marine Hull in keeping with The Beacon’s guidelines and approved Limits of Authority.
  • Provide immediate Proof of Cover as may be required.
  • To process pre-numbered certificates as required for Web Link Program
  • To import Marine Certificates on Web Link
  • To ensure the accuracy and effiency of all entries made on Beacon’s core operating system -Lansa.
  • Continuously ensure compliance with all The Beacon’s guidelines, manuals, corporate policies and SOPs.
  • Consistently identify new opportunities for cross -selling and up-selling the company’s Marine products across Broker Team
  • To assist in the formulation, development and implementation of special projects
  • To assist BDUs, Supervisor and Senior Management with effectively growing Beacon’s Marine book of business
  • Develop Business through improvement of relationships with Brokers.
  • Timely response to all Broker Marine queries and requests.
  • Handle queries that arise from customers concerning their accounts
  • To provide technical advice to Customers, Agents and Underwriters when necessary.
  • Receive claim forms
  • Determine coverage or absence thereof
  • Provide briefs to the claims department on the claimant and the respective risk(s).
  • Prepare No Claims Letters as required.
KEY TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Knowledge and understanding of the core principles of insurance and how this is applied on a day to day basis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the range of insurance products and services available in the market and how that knowledge can be used to meet client needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements and how to meet these on a day to day basis. 
  • Knowledge of the underwriting process.
  • Knowledge of how claims should be handled and managed.
KEY BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Effectiveness in transmitting information, including confidentiality, facilitation/participation in sharing information, and oral and written expression.
  • Ability to provide quality service to internal and external clients, including demonstrated commitment to improvement of service.

  • Effectiveness in working with others to achieve individual and unit goals.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Certification in CII or TTII (GI) or equivalent qualifications.  
  • Minimum five (5) CXC passes, including Math and English (minimum grade 2).
  • Minimum of one (1) to six (6) years work experience in general insurance.
