Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) 

Job purpose:  

The Ethics Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that the organization conducts its operations with the highest ethical standards and complies with all relevant laws and regulations. This position involves developing, implementing, and overseeing ethics and whistleblower program, policies, and procedures. The Ethics Officer collaborates with employees at all levels to promote a culture of integrity, transparency, accountability, and responsible business conduct. 

 Main duties/responsibilities  

  • Ethics and Whistleblower Program Development: Develop and maintain an effective ethics and whistleblower program tailored to the organization's specific needs. Regularly review and update policies and procedures to align with changing laws and industry best practices.  
  • Training and Education: Design and conduct ethics training programs for employees, management, and other stakeholders. Ensure that employees are aware of and understand the organization's code of conduct and compliance policies.  
  • Investigations and Resolution: Lead investigations of reported ethics violations or unethical behavior. Recommend corrective actions and follow through on resolution.  
  • Whistleblower Program: Manage a confidential and secure whistleblower reporting system. Ensure protection for whistleblowers and facilitate investigations when reports are made.  
  • Ethical Culture Promotion: Promote an ethical culture throughout the organization. Encourage ethical decision-making and behavior among employees.  
  • Documentation and Records Management: Maintain comprehensive records related to ethics investigations. Ensure the secure storage and retention of all relevant documents. 

 

Qualifications, knowledge & experience: Academic, vocational or professional qualifications and experience required for the job  

  •  Bachelor’s degree in business, Law, Human Resources, Compliance, or related field (Master's degree preferred).  
  • Certification in Compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional, Certified Information Systems Auditor) is a plus.  
  • Several years of relevant experience in compliance, ethics, or a related field.  
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.  
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.  
  • High level of integrity, ethics, and commitment to confidentiality.  
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various departments.  
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities. 

 

Functional skills and abilities:  

  • Advanced proficiency in English, both written and oral communication skills   
  • Skill in establishing & maintaining effective working relationships with the proven ability to work in a matrix environment across functional lines.  
  • Ability to identify & properly handle complex cultural issues requiring a high level of emotional intelligence when making recommendations.  
  • Advanced analytical & problem-solving skills as well as ability to remain neutral when facing conflicting viewpoints and emotions  
  • Self-starter, high energy; comfortable interacting with management at the senior level   
  • Able to work independently with efficient time management skills.
