(Permanent)

JOB PURPOSE:

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards to control the organization's financial resources.

DUTIES:

  • Managing accounts payable using accounting software and other programs 
  • Receives, verifies, and processes all invoices.  Comparing requisitions of goods and services with purchase orders (including prices, terms of payment, and other charges)
  • Codes and processes vendors' non-inventory invoices
  • Processing of local and foreign supplier invoices, ensuring that the invoices are recorded and payment issued by relevant due dates.  This encompasses liaising with suppliers and internal departments to collect relevant data to process payments
  • Preparation of payments, including cheques, wire transfers, and bank letters, on a weekly routine payment schedule (ad hoc where applicable).
  • Managing petty cash transactions, including reconciliation of accounts
  • Preparation of Exim bank documents for submission in relation to foreign supplier payments
  • Capture and record accruals in the accounting system to ensure expenses are matched with revenue
  • Supplier reconciliation and resolve any outstanding issues as needed.  Acts as a liaison for vendors to reconcile any billing discrepancies with the purchasing and inventory departments
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate all reconciling items
  • Audit and process credit card bills, including reconciliation of accounts
  • Perform the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
  • Preparation of accounts payable reports and schedules as needed
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts
  • Assist with the compilation of financial information during the audit as required, including annual audit schedules
  • To assist the Finance Manager in the conduct of analysis and reconciliations and other accounting functions as required and assigned
  • Maintains a proper, up-to-date filing system and record-keeping

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CAT, AAT, or pursing ACCA Level 1 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting environment
  • 5 O’Levels/CXC, including Mathematics, Principles of Accounts, and English 
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and working with general ledgers
  • Working knowledge of accounting software/s
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks, Sage, and Peachtree will be an asset

 

COMPENSATION RANGE: $7,000.00 to $8,000.00
