Multiple Vacancies: Assistant Dietitian, Chef, Junior Chef, Prep Cook, Butcher, Sanitation & Scullery Attendant

Our client, Karleen Smith and Company Limited T/A K & S Caterers, is seeking to fill the positions of Assistant Dietitian, Chef, Junior Chef, Prep Cook, Butcher, and Sanitation & Scullery Attendant.

 

ASSISTANT DIETITIAN

The Assistant Dietitian will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of dietary plans for our hospital lunch rooms and patient meals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nutrition, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create menus that are nutritionally balanced, appealing, and meet the dietary guidelines
  • Support the planning and preparation of specialized menus for patients with allergies, food intolerances, or other dietary restrictions
  • Assist in the management of food allergies and sensitivities, ensuring proper labelling and prevention of cross-contamination
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field of nutrition and dietary science
  • Collaborate with the catering team to ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Assist in the training and supervision of kitchen staff on proper food handling and nutritional guidelines
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and dietitians, to provide comprehensive nutritional care to patients 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and/or Dietetics
  • Registered Assistant Dietitian certification or eligibility for registration
  • Food Handler’s Permit
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or food service setting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition principles, dietary guidelines, and medical nutrition therapy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex nutritional information to diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations

 

CHEF

The Chef will play a vital role in preparing nutritious and appetizing meals for patients and hospital staff. Your culinary skills, attention to food safety, and dedication to delivering high-quality dishes will contribute to the overall well-being and satisfaction of those you serve. The Cook will work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that meals are prepared efficiently and meet the dietary requirements and preferences of the hospital community. The ideal candidate will have a strong culinary background and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including main courses, side dishes, and desserts, following recipes and dietary guidelines provided by the hospital.
  • Adhere to special dietary requirements for patients with specific medical conditions, such as diabetic, vegetarian, low-sodium, or gluten-free diets.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a clean kitchen environment.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dietitians and Unit Manager to plan weekly menus, considering seasonal ingredients, patient feedback, and nutritional balance.
  • Maintain the highest standard of food quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Work effectively as part of a kitchen team, assisting in various food preparation tasks, ensuring timely service, and coordinating with colleagues to meet meal schedules.
  • Follow proper food handling and safety procedures to maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Requirements:

  • Food Handler’s Permit
  • Certificates in Food Preparation, Commercial Food Preparation Level 2 Certificate or higher from HEART or its equivalent
  • Previous experience in commercial food preparation
  • Ability to follow recipes and portion control guidelines accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks

 

SANITATION & SCULLERY ATTENDANT

The Sanitation and Scullery Attendant will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area and assisting with basic food preparation tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment to wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
  • Sort and stack clean dishes and utensils in an organized manner for efficient use
  • Assist in the cleaning and sanitization of kitchen surfaces, equipment, and floors
  • Assist in the cleaning and sanitization of staff rooms and restrooms
  • Empty and clean garbage bins and dispose of waste according to established procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organized scullery area, ensuring that all cleaning supplies and equipment are properly stored
  • Follow proper food handling and safety procedures to maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations and efficient workflow
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations, including proper use and storage of chemicals and cleaning agents

Requirements:

  • Food Handler’s Permit
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a scullery attendant or in a similar role preferred
  • Familiarity with dishwashing equipment and basic kitchen sanitation practices
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Good physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
