The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the provision of financial information to management by providing support to the Accounts Payables Team.

Accountant 1 (Accounts Payables)

6-month contract

Industry: Oil & Gas

Department: Finance & Administration

Location: Port-of-Spain

Qualifications & Experience        

  • Must be ACCA and/or CPA qualified
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications and relevant Accounting packages
  • Skilled in mathematical computation used in accounting
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a similar position. Industry experience will be an asset
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform prompt and accurate review of third-party supplier invoices into the ledgers in line with relevant requirements, policies and procedures
  • Monitor open and overdue invoices and communicate and follow-up accordingly with the appropriate stakeholders
  • Gather, collate and analyze data as and when necessary, in order to prepare and maintain various reports as and when needed
  • Resolve outstanding invoices issues that have been escalated as first escalation point
  • Perform the monthly, quarterly and year-end close activities
  • Manage the exceptions arising from automated system payment runs
  • Analyze the root cause and resolve payments that failed/ rejected & recommend remediation/ process improvement
  • Provide payables related advice and information as and when required
  • Ensure daily targets on invoice processing are met
  • Reconcile the relevant system and journals, and ensure that all invoices are approved appropriately and paid on time
  • Manage and coordinate the reconciliation of the relevant systems to ensure they balance and that any discrepancies or variations are investigated and corrected
  • Support the business with ad hoc financial requests and queries
  • Assist with other duties as required

Skills & Abilities

  • Must be able to work with stringent deadlines on a monthly basis
  • Must be available to work outside of normal working hours to meet deadlines (This may include 2-3 hours on a daily basis during the week of financial close as well as weekends when required)
  • Must be highly organized
  • Must provide careful attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must be sensitive to time deadlines and ensure that work is accomplished in the timeframe required
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and perform work efficiently
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

 Salary: $17,000.00 per month
