JOB TITLE: LAB SUPERVISOR

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lab Supervisor will be responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of the laboratory department within our manufacturing facility. This role requires a strong background in chemical analysis, quality control, and laboratory management. The Lab Supervisor will ensure compliance with safety standards, oversee testing procedures, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain product quality and drive continuous improvement.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Laboratory Operations:

  • Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, including sample testing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement laboratory procedures, protocols, and quality control measures.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, proper handling, and storage of chemicals, and adherence to industry standards and regulations.

Quality Control:

  • Implement and maintain a robust quality control program to ensure product consistency and adherence to specifications.
  • Develop and enforce quality control procedures, including sampling plans, testing methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze test data, identify trends, and initiate corrective actions to address deviations and ensure product quality.

Testing and Analysis:

  • Conduct chemical and physical analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using appropriate testing methods and equipment.
  • Interpret test results, prepare accurate reports, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with R&D and production teams to troubleshoot quality issues, optimize processes, and support product development.

Research and Development:

  • Creation and testing of new formulation and products.
  • Research new technologies.
  • Research alternative raw materials for processes.  

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and supervise a team of laboratory technicians, delegating tasks, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment, promoting continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels, workload distribution, and efficient utilization of resources.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records, including test results, equipment logs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal quality management systems.
  • Assist in audits and inspections, responding to inquiries and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency improvements, and cost savings within the laboratory operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and monitor improvement initiatives.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in testing methods, and best practices in laboratory management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, or a related field from a recognized Institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a laboratory role, with experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity with a proven track record of successful laboratory management.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical analysis techniques, quality control principles, and laboratory best practices.
  • Experience in the detergent or related chemical manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards (e.g., ISO, FDA, OSHA).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team, fostering a collaborative work environment.
