A popular restaurant in Kingston is seeking Cooks

Position Summary:

The Cook is responsible for preparing and organizing all ingredients, kitchen utensils/tools prior to cooking, adhering to approved recipes and Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Duties include:

  • Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment
  • Prepares item for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéing or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning and/or marinating
  • Follows proper plate presentation, garnish set up for all dishes and making sure food is properly stored
  • Complies consistently with the restaurant’s standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures
  • Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth operation
  • Portions food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range, and refrigeration equipment
  • Closing the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations

Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes:

  • At least 3 CXC passes
  • HEART certification in food preparation
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar capacity
  • Valid food handlers permit an asset
