The QHSE Officer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing the Company’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Management System and sustainability initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY

The QHSE Officer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing the Company’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Management System and sustainability initiatives to maintain and continually improve safety culture and performance as well as the company’s environmental impact.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-ordinates the Company’s Quality, Health and Safety Programme which includes but is not limited to:
    • Policy formulation.
    • Training and Toolbox Talks.
    • Awareness Programs to educate and promote a safety culture.
    • Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analyses; Walkthroughs and Audits.
    • Co-ordination of emergency response plan.
    • Conducting of Accident and Incident Investigations.
    • Co-ordination of Medical attention and Surveillance in cases of accidents and injuries.
    • Co-ordination of Corrective Action analysis and implementation.
    • Introduction and maintenance of continuous development programs.
  • Conducts QHSE inspections to ensure compliance with internal and external QHSE protocols and standards.
  • Recommends changes and enhancements to existing policies and controls to ensure they are current, compliant, adequate, functional and utilized in accordance with QHSE standards and sustainability policies established by the government and required by the company and external customers.
  • Supports the development of feasibility studies and projects to achieve selected sustainability objectives.
  • Maintains health and safety kits, including First Aid Kits, Spill Kits and Job specific kits, as applicable.
  • Manages the storage of HSE tools and PPE supplies including auditing stock; ordering and issuing items as required and/or in keeping with established schedules and maintaining accurate records of same.
  • Ensures that the Company has all MSDS on file for all traded products.
  • Interprets the MSDS and ensures that such information is disseminated in a timely manner.
  • Develops and maintains the Hazardous Communication Programme for all used and stored chemicals.
  • Conducts periodic training on the safe handling, storage and spillage of products identified under the Hazardous Communication Programme.
  • Ensures that all building certifications are maintained and renewed in accordance with OSH regulations. (Fire, electrical and generators).
  • Ensures the inspection and certification of all lifting equipment, safety baskets and LPG tanks annually.
  • Ensures the inspection and certification of all fire equipment quarterly.
  • Supports the Health and Safety Committee as needed, completing action plans and following up on agreed deliverables.
  • Orders, installs/oversees the installation of QHSE infrastructure and signage as required.
  • Generates analytics and reports for leadership team and other internal and external parties as required by the function. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences or related discipline.
  • OSHA, NEBOSH and/or environmental management certification.
  • Experience in health and safety management.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years working experience in a similar environment.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  •  Detail oriented
  • Customer focused.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools.
