NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION

The incumbent will be responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, performance, integrity, backup, migration and security of our databases. The incumbent is also responsible for the development of database solutions for the credit union based on the design and requirements of the ICT Systems Manager.  He/She is also responsible for the daily maintenance of these solutions.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES/MAJOR TASKS

The Database Administrator is accountable for the following end results, some of which includes:

 

  1. Design and document database architecture.
  2. Build database scheme, tables, procedures and permissions.
  3. Create and maintain reports from banking and other systems
  4. Ensure fidelity of information uploaded to Credit Bureaus.
  5. Develop database utilities and automated reporting.
  6. Create scripts for task automation.
  7. Oversee backup, ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
  8. Restore and recover corrupted databases.
  9. Analyze and tune database for optimal efficiency.
  10. Monitor systems and platforms for availability.
  11. Evaluate and recommend new database technologies.
  12. Log and report banking application errors to developer.
  13. Test and verify the fidelity of patches and updates for banking application.
  14. Respond in a timely manner to user queries including but not limited to: Ilink, creating and updating users, report creations, audits etc.
  15. Standard computer hardware and software troubleshooting.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must possess a Bachelors Degree or equivalent training in Computer Science or a related field and have at least a minimum of three (3) years experience performing a similar function.

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Strong logical and analytical thinker
  • Excellent knowledge of MSSQL, Oracle and MySQL Databases
  • Excellent knowledge of Crystal Reports or SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Familiarity with web design and programming tools (vb.net, asp.net, html)
  • Knowledge of Unix\Linux administration
  • Detail-oriented
  • Good Inter-personal skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
