Job Description

The Accountant is responsible for the completion and maintenance of all financial records and reports to ensure the financial viability of the Commission. Work involves preparing, reviewing and analysing financial documents and reports in compliance with local and international accounting standards, laws and regulations. The Accountant also provides supervision and guidance to junior staff.

Qualifications and Expeirence:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting  with 6 years  experience, or
  • Professional designation in Accounting such as Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) with 4 years experience
  • Specialist knowledge of Public Service accounting principles and procedures. 
  • Specialist knowledge of the Acts, laws, regulations and policies that apply to Accounting (such as Financial Regulations and Instructions e.g., Exchequer and Audit Act, Chapter 69:01; IFRS)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performs general accounting / finance activities to support the finance function operations of the Commission
  • Reviews and verifies the payroll transactions for the commission
  • Participates in month-end close activities 
  • Generates and prepares periodic financial and statistical reports for upper management review, and to meet reporting requirements
  • Supervises the activities of the Finance staff to ensure compliance of accounting standards and that effective administrative procedures are maintained
  • Supports and assists with financial and related events/matters
  • Identifies gaps and submits recommendations to operations and financial activities for improvements in efficiency and quality of performance
