Chief Accountant
Job Summary & Core Functions
The Chief Accountant is responsible for supporting the Managing Director in reconciling account balances and bank statements, ensuring proper maintenance of the general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures for the Auditors, Bankers and Investment Houses. The incumbent must combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and assist in leading and training the members of his or her accounting team to achieve excellent results.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the Managing Director with:
Directly supervise the Finance & Accounts Department through the establishment of financial standards and goals, training and development of Junior Accountants and Accounting Clerks by planning, assigning and reviewing staff’s work, and providing technical support and guidance to enhance their development.
Conduct Staff Appraisals based on targets and goals set and the technical and non-technical training and guidance given before, during and after each assignment.
Assist in ensuring timely completion of assignments by leading the Accounting Team effectively, ensuring quality of work is consistently up to standard thereby helping to build the Corporate Brand.
Verify, allocate, post and reconcile Accounts Payables and Receivables, ensuring the production of error-free accounting reports are presented to the Financial Controller each month.
Be responsible for the management and maintenance of the Fixed Asset Schedule, ensuring that registers reflect accurately numbers and costs in line with accounting systems and procedures.
Review and approve Bank Reconciliations, journal entries, payment vouchers, payroll entries, petty cash vouchers, and ensure accurately posted so that the organization’s cash management position remains healthy at all times.
Be responsible for the reconciliation of Balance Sheet items, analyzing financial information and summarizing financial status of the organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
