Human Resource Officer

 

Job Summary

The Human Resource Officer will be responsible for assisting with daily Human Resources administrative support. The incumbent will be key person, first point of contact between staff and HR.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include (but not limited to) the following:

  •  Assist in the development of HR policies and procedures in accordance with local labour laws and regulations and ensure continuous review and updating of staff handbooks.
  • Ensure employees understand and comply with policies and procedures and assist with the implementation of training sessions, where necessary.
  • Maintain employee records and ensure appropriate access and confidentiality protocols are implemented.
  • Performing file audits to ensure that all required employee documentation is collected and maintained.
  • Ensuring background and reference checks are completed and overseeing the completion of compensation and benefit documentation.
  • Orienting new employees to the organization (setting up a designated log-in, workstation, email address, etc.)
  • Proactively develop sound labour relations practices in the organization and act as the point of contact regarding labour legislation issues.
  • Develop and review policies, procedures and guidelines to assist supervisors in the consistent administration of policies.
  • Assist with gathering data and statistics with respect to “attendance management”, analyzing the data and providing recommendations on trends and programme enhancement.
  • Maintaining currency of Human Resource matters, identifying and analyzing emerging personnel and human resource management issues.
  • Analyze group benefit coverage on an ongoing basis, identifying changes in coverage, carrier, or approach as required.
  • Assist in coordinating compensation matters of employees.
  • Manage employees’ grievances and all aspects employee relations, including disciplines, investigations etc.
  • Assist with the development of HR metrics (e.g. turnover, retention, absenteeism), identify patterns, and make recommendations to ensure a highly engaged workforce.
  • Maintains employee benefits programs and inform employees of benefits (Health, Life Insurance and Personal Accident Coverage, ID, Lunch Subsidy, Business Cards, and Uniforms etc).
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

Education and Experience:

  • BSc. in Human Resources, Management Studies, Business Administration, or another related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimun of 2 -3 years working experience in Human Resources.
  • Good working knowledge of the Jamaican Labour Laws with hands-on experience in applying labour laws to routine and non-routine HR issues.
  • Skilled in managing employee issues including the ability to engage in meaningful negotiation and resolution.
  • Computer literate particularly with Microsoft Suite.
  • Positive and pro-active attitude towards work and the ability to work under pressure and efficiently.
  • Knowledge in Payroll and Compensation Benefits Administration would be an asset.
