Perform X-ray, Mammography and ultrasound examinations, producing images of the highest diagnostic quality, while ensuring that the patient rights, confidentiality and dignity are not compromised and performing other duties consistent with the day-to-day operations of the Medical Imaging Unit.

The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Sonographer to perform X-ray, Mammography and ultrasound examinations, producing images of the highest diagnostic quality, while ensuring that the patient rights, confidentiality and dignity are not compromised and performing other duties consistent with the day-to-day operations of the Medical Imaging Unit.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):

(1)     Ensures physical and mental preparation of patients and the performance of routine and specialized X-rays and ultrasound procedures.

(2)     Perform ultrasound examinations including general abdominal and pelvic ultrasound, Obstetric and gynecological ultrasound, venous Doppler ultrasound, small part sonography including breast, thyroid, pediatric cranial and superficial ultrasound inclusive.

(3)     Selects appropriate technical factors based on the ALARA principle, patient size and suspected pathology and efficient and safe operation of the equipment in accordance with examination protocol and characteristics of the equipment.

(4)      Ensures accurate documentation of patient information, allergies, contraindications, consent and other relevant information.

(5)     Observes and utilizes strict radiation protection measures in all areas of practice.

(6)     Ensures all images are accurately and adequately identified with appropriate markers.

(7)     Performs special portable ultrasound procedures to be conducted in theatre, ICU and wards.

(8)     Carries out minor preventative maintenance and quality checks on main and accessory equipment.

(9)     Assists with the operations of the PACS system.

(10)  Performs any other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor that is required for the smooth operation of the Medical Imaging Unit and patient welfare.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Education

v  Diploma or Degree in Medical Imaging, Radiography or Diagnostic Ultrasound.

Experience

v  Minimum of two years post qualification experience

Licences & Certifications

v  AART, CMRT, RDMS or any regional registration

Knowledge, skills and abilities

v  Thorough knowledge of Medical Imaging Technology inclusive of ultrasonography

v  Computer literate with knowledge of productivity software and PACS.

v  Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards and meeting deadlines

v  Ability to be flexible and to exercise good judgment in carrying out all phases of work.

v  Ability to operate standard office equipment (printers and photocopiers).

v  Ability to be courteous, tactful and cooperative while maintaining patient confidentiality.

v  Good written and verbal communication skills.

v  Is personable and is a team player

v  Having MRI skills is an added advantage

 

Physical Demands

v  Physical ability to lift or move equipment, accessories and supplies.

 

Work Environment

v  The work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.

 

SALARY: $49,602.00 - $64,483.00 Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
