The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is a specialized agency with the responsibility for the care and protection of children, especially those who are at risk or have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to recruit for House Coordinator, on contract.

The House Coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations at the Authority’s Children residences.  He/she will provide leadership, support and supervision to staff and play a lead role in the creation of a positive, therapeutic environment and the delivery of high- quality care to children in the residences.

Principal Accountabilities/ Key Functions:

  • Effectively oversee the day-to-day operations of the Authority’s Children Home ensuring that procedures relating to the house communication book, records of expenditure, reporting and recording of critical incidents and accidents, maintaining children’s files and all other operational processes and procedures are followed.

  • Ensure that the physical environment is maintained to a high standard that creates a sense of pride in the surroundings for residents. Supervise the cleaning, gardening and general tidiness tasks in and around the Home on a regular basis.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff involved in the care and development of the child in residence to ensure that routines, community activities and behavioural expectations are consistently maintained.
  • Coordinate and manage a flexible staff roster for the Child Support Officers to meet the needs of the children.
  • Participate in Internal Audits and service reviews as needed.
  • Supervise the inventory and other resources such as groceries, cosmetics, clothing etc. at the Home with assistance from the staff. Approve the requisitions of items for the Centre.
  • Prepare meal plans in accordance with the dietary requirements, health, religious persuasion and cultural background of the residents.
  • Conduct frequent checks on all equipment, furniture and physical assets at the Centre and provide reports to the Reception Centre Manager.
  • Ensure that appropriate therapeutic interventions and responses are used to promote stability, development and long-term planning. Employ de-escalation strategies to treat with situations involving violence.
  • Oversee the admission, orientation and discharge processes of all children placed at the Children’s Homes, ensuring the maintenance of and compliance with all operating protocols, standards and procedure as well as the child’s immediate and short-term safety protection and well-being.  Ensure that the following are prepared for new residents:
    • Welcome Packages
    • Clothing
    • Meal
    • Assignment of Bed Space
    • Laundry etc.
  • Ensure that within seven (7) days of arrival at the Home, each child is informed of the policies and procedures of the community residence.
  • Ensure that children do not leave the Home unaccompanied or unsupervised or without permission.
  • Provide suitable facilities for children to receive visitors. Assess visitors to determine if they are threats and if so report same to the Authority.
  • Develop and implement an evacuation plan for all children and staff of the Home. Keep records of evacuation drills conducted
  • Supervise and monitor the updating of the following logs:
    • Visitors’
    • Disciplinary
    • Child Support Officers
    • Medical
    • Personal Effects
    • Medication Dispensation
  • Maintain accurate and confidential files of the children at the Children’s Homes. 
  • Maintain documents required to comply with the Children’s Home regulations including CATT’s quality standards. Also, maintain other records and documents related to the facility.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support as required including House diary management, written and verbal communication with the children, case workers and support staff. Ensure that all communications and correspondence are dealt with in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Bring to the attention of Team Leads and the Reception Centre Manager any matter for concern about the well-being, safety or safeguarding of a child.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Reception Centre Manager

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or related field
  • A minimum of Ten (10) years’ experience working in the social services field with at least Three (3) years at supervisory level
  • Certificate in Child Protection and Safeguarding
  • First Aid and CPR
