Under the supervision of the MANAGER FINANCE and ACCOUNTING, the Accounting Officer is responsible for the coordination of the daily activities of the department, ensuring that the company’s policies and standard accounting policies are adhered to.

ACCOUNTING OFFICER

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reconciliation of the company’s bank account on a monthly basis and post adjustments to accurately reflect the company’s cash position.
  • Ensure the completion and reconciliation of the monthly payroll  
  • Prepare monthly accounts to trial balance stage and provide the Financial Controller (FC) with the balance sheet and profit and loss statement.
  • Liaise with the Purchasing Coordinator to ensure that the interface between inventory payable and general ledger is accurately maintained.
  • Ensure that all relevant journals are prepared, approved and posted on a monthly basis.
  • Verify all entries posted to the general Ledger.
  • Approve and verify all cheque requisitions by ensuring that the relevant supporting documents are attached
  • Discuss, review and recommend in collaboration with the Executive Director payment to suppliers.
  • Ensure that the fix asset register is updated accordingly
  • To supervise and appraise staff reporting to the position.
  • To perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director within the scope of the position

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

  • Payroll is accurately prepared according to schedule
  • Bank reconciliations are executed in a timely manner
  • All adjustments are posted monthly and accurately reflect the company’s cash position.
  • Journal entries are verified, correctly coded and entered before posting each month
  • The journal report corresponds with the journal entries.
  • Regular checks and reviews are made to ensure proper procedures are followed and that records are up to date and accurate.
  • Consultation is held at regular intervals with the FC to determine liquidity as well as critical and urgent supply requirement

As assigned from time to time by the MANGER FINANCE and ACCOUNTING

WORKING HOURS

8:00am-5:00pm- Mondays to Fridays – Required to work extra hours or on weekends as necessary to complete tasks.

JOB SPECIFICATION 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma
  • Certification in Government Accounting level 1 and 2l

SPECIFIC SKILLS OR COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to focus on detail and provide accurate information
  • Ability to communicate with other departments 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Financial and Management accounting 
  • Accounting software packages and spreadsheets
