Lex Caribbean offers an exciting opportunity for an Associate Attorney in the Foreign Direct Investment team of its International Business Group.
The Role
The role of the successful candidate will include:
- thriving in a dynamic and high-energy group that services demanding international clients who require a range of responsive domestic advisory and transactional services in respect of active operating investments in Barbados. The candidate should be comfortable undertaking urgent work on brief notice, multitasking, and adapting to changing circumstances. Successful discharge of this role will also depend on working seamlessly with other resources in the firm under the supervision and mentorship of the head of the group who is also the Firm’s Managing Partner.
- The role is for a qualified attorney-at-law, admitted to practice in Barbados, or admitted to practice in another Caribbean territory, and entitled, without pursuing further qualification, to be admitted in Barbados.
The Candidate
Ideally the candidate will:
- Have a strong passion for, or firsthand knowledge of, infrastructural property development within the local/regional context, including familiarity with the associated regulatory and contractual frameworks. Experience of advising hospitality sector clients would also be an asset.
- Have not less than 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience, BUT first-class training will be provided in any event, so outstanding juniors may also be considered.
- Have outstanding academic credentials, including at least an Upper Second-Class Honours qualification in their undergraduate degree (or equivalent).
- Be skilled in conducting legal research, drafting and critically reviewing legal documents.
- Be able to facilitate and foster strong relationships with team members, clients and stakeholders.
- Have excellent analytical skills and apply them to achieve commercial solutions.
- Be a quick and enthusiastic learner.
- Have first-rate verbal and written communication skills.
- Have superb organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple, simultaneous, and competing priorities for demanding clients.
- Operate collaboratively, in a team-based environment, while also being comfortable, as a self-starter, to work independently where required.
- Demonstrate unwavering accountability to team members, other colleagues and clients.
- Function energetically and positively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Other Information
Having joined our team, this attorney must have a clean driver’s license and autonomous use of a vehicle as the role will involve frequent external engagements with clients and stakeholders.
