Communications Officer

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

About the position:

The Children’s Life Fund Authority (CLFA) is seeking to recruit a Communications Officer on contract. The successful candidate will exercise leadership in developing and distributing information to/that promote(s) the organization and is responsible for the way in which employees, clients, stakeholders and the general public view the Authority. This includes developing and implementing the Authority’s communications plans, crisis management strategies, public relations and the relevant outreach/educational programs and initiatives.

The Communications Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer in identifying areas to improve the Authority's positioning, public relations, and brand. The Communications Officer shall develop and maintain relationships with media personnel and would be heavily involved in the preparation of press release statements and the reviewing of content for distribution and publication. Working with the Authority, the Communications Officer will be surrounded by a diverse group of people with varying experiences where he/she would be required to continuously teach and reinforce to employees and key stakeholders the Children’s Life Fund Authority’s mission statement and its overall brand.

What you’ll do (Key Responsibilities):

  • Coordinates the design and implementation of the Authority’s communication plans, public relations and Authority’s outreach/educational programs, initiatives, and activities.
  • Coordinates the development of the Authority’s Crisis Management Strategies.
  • Prepares presentations, proposals, speeches, releases, articles, and other communiques and materials for approval and dissemination.
  • Develops internal company newsletters for employees, key stakeholders, and industry actors.
  • Communicates with members of print, radio, and television media to maintain the CLFA’s presence where required.
  • Manages the company’s website and social media accounts whilst optimizing the Authority’s website content for internet search engines.
  • Monitors trends in relevant social media applications, channels and internet content to continuously improve and ensure effectiveness of the Authority’s platforms.
  • Drives messaging and announcement development and pitch strategies to ensure integrity of brand.
  • Provides research to inform and assist in the development of brand and media strategies to effectively manage relationships between the Authority and its stakeholders.
  • Establishes and maintains a network of support for the delivery of the Authority’s mandate through the building of relationships with other supporting Government Ministries, Non-Governmental Organizations, and the Corporate Community.
  • Designs processes that further the impact of the Authority’s grant funding program in promoting the corporate image of the Authority.
  • Maximizes opportunities for the Authority and authorized employees and services to be featured in various types of media messages.
  • Evaluates key issues that impact the reputation of the Authority and recommend solutions.
  • Delivers all activities and projects within budget and agreed timeframe.

 

What you’ll need (Education & Relevant Experience Requirements):

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications/Communication Studies/Marketing or any related field is required.
  • At least four (4) years’ experience in communications in a corporate entity.
  • Experience with project management and communication software would be an asset.

Type of Contract and Duration:

  • Fixed Term Contract, 24 months initially, renewable upon neutral agreement.
